They show whether any rear passengers have their seat belts fastened.  These indicators show up briefly when the car is started; for the photo, the ignition was at position 2 so the mpg reading showed up.

The indicators may show up because the seat belts are plugged in even thought the rear seats are empty (can't say for certain without venturing outside).

I've recently purchased a GTD, been camping twice, car had a minimum of 2 people and on one journey for 200 odd miles 3 people. Mixed driving and not trying to get amazing MPG. 560 miles out of a tank. Amazing when coming from a 1.8t mk4.

Hi,

Has anyone done a direct comparison with the Mk7 GTD?

I held off buying a Mk6 and decided to wait for the Mk7 since the fuel economy quoted seemed so much better.

Reading this and comparing to what I can get out my car things seem very different.

I am getting about 41MPG long term over the 4500 miles I have had the car and 49mpg on long motorway runs - 100 miles plus..

I have deliberately been driving conservatively to determine the cars performance but it still seems very difficult to get it over the 50mpg mark.

Quite frustrating given when is quoted in the book.

There must be something wrong with your calculations as I put in 53-54 litres every fill up 520-540 miles and I only get 43mpg average.

That's what the MFD is showing with around 70 miles left on the range i.e. when the light comes on.  Don't really take it any lower

Yeah thanks - I did start a thread there, seems that the Mk7 is a bit behind the Mk6 performance which is rather disappointing..

I understand you probably can't achieve the official figures but you can't even use them for a comparison given that the mk7 state so much better than the previous generations but in real life they are worse...
