Title: Possible power steering fault!!? Help
Post by: Louiswoods on 16 March 2019, 08:51
Hi guys not long had my mk4 gti 1.8t and I’m thinking the power steering has gone but there’s a weird noise coming from the front of the car.. when I heard it I though it must be the pump trying to pump fluid that’s not there around..? Anyone on here had this problem or know what it could be ???

Not checked belt and fluid is leaking out so defo power steering just need to find out if it’s the pump or one of the banjo fittings leaking

I found loose fitting on ours down under the pump, towards the front of the car.
Also had/have a minor leak at the pipe to the rear of the reservoir. Due to the location, both went unnoticed for a time.

Your noise "could" be a dry pump. Do you see foaming in the reservoir?
Fix leak/s. Top up and bleed the system. Check for noise again.
