Hello people!
Im looking to buy a mrk3 golf gti but im a little confused which to go for.... the 16v or the 8v?
I hear that the 8v is nippy - is this true? i know the 16v is faster on paper, but i have heard that the 8v golfs are kinda quick to.
whats the performance of the golf gti 16v???
which is the better choice overall?
Thanks! :)

c'mon! someone must know summin about the 16v and 8v mark 3s!!! ???

mk2...;) ;D :o

Ive had a couple of MK3 8v and yes they were faster than my mk2 1300. Ive just bought mk3 16v. No contest.
Things happen between 3-4000 in an 8v and then drop off. In the 16v you have to work for it by getting it up to 4-5000 and then things start to happen. Then theres always a VR6!?

yeah i've had both, the 8v is basically a slug, you wouldn't actually believe it's a gti, the 16v is much better even though you need to get the revs up.

The 16V MK3 has got 30% more power than the 8 Valve and it makes the right sounds also when the engine is working.
I aggree what the others say about making the engine work, when you want to go fast you have to drop down a gear and it all happens above 3500RPM and it takes off after 4000RPM as you would expect from a 16Valve.
Then the 16Valve has a LSD fitted which is useful and I belive the later ones have the same brakes as the VR6

for the money...get a mint condition late mk2.....8 valve or 16...it will be much quicker to drive....(maybe not quite top end but all the way up there!)

Remember that the MK3 has a higher BHP version of the 16Valve lump, it might be a little heaver but there is plenty of power to make up for it. The MK2 16V is a very fast car and the 8Valve is quick also
