Quoted £275 for minor service.
« on: 07 April 2021, 03:44 »
My local VW dealer has quoted £275 for a minor service.

https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners-and-drivers/servicing/pricing-for-cars-over-3

According to VW it should be £184. I’ve emailed the dealer but no reply.

What are other people paying for a minor service?

(Clubsport S if relevant.)

Perhaps they have included the cost of a brake fluid change?

My local dealer insists on adding an air con service (refresh and re-gas) by default too, so ask for an itemised quote and see what else has been added. Chances are it’s not just the service.

@Ooosh; is your car on VW’s time and distance service regime? If not, and it’s on the flexible / long life regime, that might explain the higher price (the prices quoted on VW’s website are for cars on annual time / distance servicing).

Also, in the fixed price servicing terms and conditions, it’s states that the prices quoted for fixed price servicing are only available at ‘participating Volkswagen authorised repairers’. It could be that the dealer who’s quoted you a higher price isn’t a ‘participating repairer’, although as @Watts and @RM have said, it’s more likely the dealer has included other work within the price you’ve been quoted but not told you! I’d be asking for a breakdown of the quoted price as @RM has suggested.

Link to the terms and conditions for VW’s fixed price servicing for cars over three years old below;

Thanks chaps. I’ll see what else they have included.

@SRGTD I have the car serviced annually or whenever it does 10,000 miles. Until Covid I never hit 10,000 miles first but now regularly do 2000 miles a month commuting from Cornwall to Gatwick. (Used to use Flybe then the train but now have no choice but to drive 3 or 4 times a month.)

2000 miles a month!

On a CSS....

That's eating a lot of value out of that car.... have you thought about swapping it for another? I'd recommend a GTD for mile munching.

I know it’s crazy. Consequence of Covid.

However I have decided to keep this car indefinitely. Had a GR Yaris for a bit as a potential replacement but did not bond as much and it did not fit my needs.

So I figure if I never sell the CSS the miles don’t matter at all. And it’s only temporary until train timetables go back to normal.

Is the CSS much fun to drive over that sort of distance?

Does yours have the aircon or not?

Must be like driving a tuned up Astra van....

Cars are meant to be driven. A sad world we live in when people don't drive their cars for fear of putting on miles for the next owner.

True, but 2000 miles a month will end it quite quickly.

If you are happy with that then fair enough - I've done it enough to know what happens but I've never cared because it wasn't my own car.

CSS's are quite rare beasts indeed, something VW never made before and probably will never make again too.

Seems a bit of shame to just beast it into the scrapyard IMHO.
