I've got a loan of a VAG.COM cable so need to return it and wondered if there was anything worthwhile I should code while I still have the lead?
What I've done so far is:
Rear view camera re-coded
Buttons on MFSW
Nav directions on MFD (awesome feature)
Audio now back on MFD
Alarm chirp when locking doors
Changed colour of RNS510
Emergency brake warning (although couldn't get it to work no matter how hard I slammed the brakes on. Maybe not a UK setting?)
Auto Closing Windows via Rain Light Sensor
Voice control (although not installed the mic yet)
Got rid of KPH and have the temperature there instead
Have a large digital MPH in the MFD
-
what about the dials spinning round on start up, I cant remember its name.

Dial staging
VCDS Version 912 beta
Select under 17 Instruments - 10 adaption - Staging and activate.
according to vortex seems to only work only on GTI's built on or after 12/09

Thats the name, dial staging. thanks.
Is that right about the date ? I'm sure I've seen a video of it working on someones GTI on youtube and that was before 12/09.
-
If the Inst Cluster is the 'D' revision, it'll work.
I set mine last week.
Also: close sunroof from keyfob/rain sensor
Memory function of drivers heated seat activated.
-
Buttons on MFSW
What's this all about then?
-
Buttons on MFSW
What's this all about then?
The buttons had stopped working since I upgraded to the RNS510 that's all.
Staging didn't work for me but then I don't have a GTI. It seems to be a bit hit and miss whether it works or not according to this thread (http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4802735)

When you first fit an RNS510 without coding it, it sometimes doesn't work with the steering wheel.
p3asa - one thing I coded that is really useful is change your settings to Rest Of World - and then you can have a HUGE digital speedo in the MFD!
-
I think you have covered the main ones,

Really?
Where is that setting found?
I'll be having a bit of that..
Do you scroll into it as a menu option on the MFD?
-
From memory its 17 - Instruments.
You can choose USA, but the car bongs every time you start it like an American car!
If you pick Rest of World, it will change all your stuff to KM - but you can choose settings in the MFD to make them back to mpg instead of litres... and turn off second speed (or something like that).
-
Sounds interesting. I'll give that a go and see what I think.
Does it alter anything else if you change it to Rest of the World?
I like the way the auto closing windows with rain sensor can now be selected via the MFD once its been coded.

I'd be looking to get my car coded for the alarm chirp & auto closing of windows/sunroof. And the perma xenons are still anoyying me a bit. Do you think the dealer would be able to sort this for me?

also, set the mfd to show MPH instead of KPH.

Cheers Snoopy.
On a similar note, since others here have VAG.COM'd, is it reasonable to have some errors?
I've got the following:
Address 19: CAN Gateway
01303 - Telephone Transceiver (R36)
004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent.......Phone works fine. Could it be because I'm using the Fiscon unit?
01044 - Control Module Incorrectly Coded
000 - - - Intermittent
02873 - Control Module for Back-Up Camera (J772)
004 - No Signal/Communication ........................Not sure about this as the camera is working?
Address 37: Navigation
01042 - Control Module; Not Coded
02873 - Control Module for Back-Up Camera (J772)
004 - No Signal/Communication
01523 - Microphone for Telephone (R38)
011 - Open Circuit ...........................................Is it because I activated voice control but not plugged anything in?
01305 - Databus for Infotainment
004 - No Signal/Communication
00862 - Antenna for GPS Navigation (R50/R52)
011 - Open Circuit - Intermittent.........................I have the RNS510 with GPS!!!
Address 56: Radio
Exact same 5 error codes as in the Navigation
Address 77: Telephone
Cannot be reached...................................................... Again, is it because its not the official VW bluetooth but the Fiscon?

BTW 2 features I really like but no foreskin dealer wants to add...

Some of those things were on my car as standard until I upgraded the head unit!!
Alarm chirp, auto closing windows with rain, emergency brake and voice control were all new however.
Surely you can't change the colour scheme of your RNS without vag.com?

Sorry the cable is winging its way to its rightful owner. Shame as its a 2 second job once you know what you are doing.

I hope non of you get stopped by VOSA for a roadside inspection after changing it to MPH
-
Sorry I know its bad crack to reply to your own post but just thought I'd update with the error codes in case anyone else is googling the error codes.
Rebooting the RNS510 and waiting a minute or 2 until the bluetooth was well established cleared all the codes except:
Address 37: Navigation
01042 - Control Module; Not Coded
01523 - Microphone for Telephone (R38)
011 - Open Circuit
Address 77: Telephone
Cannot be reached
I presume the first 2 codes are because of the voice control enabled but not actually installed
And the Gateway 77 not reached due to the telephone being a 3rd party add-on i.e. Fiscon.
-
I hope non of you get stopped by VOSA for a roadside inspection after changing it to MPH
Is it legislation for this country?
Anyway there is a tick button option now enabled in the MFD which I hadn't seen before that turns the KMH on and off. Sorted
What I'm wondering now is, if the car goes in for a service would VW put the likes of this back to the UK?
-
VW dealer probably won't change it as their lazy.
UK law iirc, i could remember it wrong, says you need MPH and KPH shown.
edit: type aproval info
(http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b361/flogitg/speedo.jpg)
Road Vehicle (Con & Use) Reg 1986 .....that every motor vehicle shall be fitted with a speedometer which, if the vehicle is first used on or after 1st April 1984, shall be capable of indicating speed in both miles per hour and kilometres per hour.

Nope but I thought you meant from say white to red...(update change)
Ive got green for phone and red for media and blue for nav...

I would really like to have the dial staging (pointless, but looks really cool ) and the heated seat memory. Can someone give me an idiot's guide to how to do these, so I can take it to my dealer and get it done quickly?
TIA

See the link i posted earlier on this thread

See the link i posted earlier on this thread
I had a look, but I couldn't see a definitive answer to my question. Can anyone here (i.e. UK/European spec Golf) tell me how to
(a) program the heated seats so that they retain their setting when the engine is switched off and
(b) how to achieve the dial staging thing ?
TIA

a)Address 08 – Auto HVAC:
Drivers heated seat memory
Found in Adaptation. From the drop down list, choose Storage of seat heater level driver. Change to On and Save.
b) VCDS Version 912 beta (does not work with older versions of the program)
Select under 17 Instruments -> 10 adaption -> Staging
and activate.

However the dealer uses an entirely different system and if you get a technician who can't think for himself, those codes will mean nothing. An independent VAG garage would probably have the gear and do it for you for a few sheckles
-
Both my local dealers have the official equipment but also Vagcom on labtops  cheaky so and so's
-
p3asa did you send it back ? It was meant to come to me next I believe.
-
Yes its sent back unfortunately. Nothing was said to me about sending it to yourself.
Probably just as well Kev because if it came to some harm in between going from me to you back to the owner, who would be liable for the £250 replacement cable?!

I'll post a photo of mine tomorrow - but mine fills the full display with MASSIVE numbers!!
-
Here is mine...
Not as massive as I seemed to think - but definately bigger than the one pictured.
-
Probably bigger cause mine has Speed above the actual digit. If yours doesn't display that then it will probably have more room for the digits. I noticed today it doesn't actually read the same as the dial.
I was doing 75 according to the dial yet the display was reading 71!!
Does yours display the direction you are travelling in? You can see I was travelling North East when I took the picture.
-

My digital one is near identical to the dial. I checked them against a GPS camera detector, and at 70mph they're only about 2-3 mph low.
Yeah - I get the digital compass in the top corner when I'm moving.
-

Thats cool sundaydriver, just let me know when you have it back and tested ok.
-

I can change mine back to KMPH by choosing a tick box in the MFD settings - no Vagcom required from the way its set up now.
Can you do this? Taking it abroad wouldn't be a problem - just tick / untick this box
-
Yeah I noticed this after posting. Think I mentioned it a few posts back. Nice feature
-
I tried it today, and got this:
Except mine reads 20MPH. All the time. Something not right.
Can someone please re-check the coding instructions?
Cheers,
Glen

Rest of the World in the instruments Gateway.
I used the beta version of VCDS.

Yeah - I get the digital compass in the top corner when I'm moving.
I rechecked today going to work. My dial was reading 75 and the digital reading was between 74 and 75 so I was a bit hasty saying they were different. I haven't tried comparing them to my GPS unit!!.
Is your GPS camera detector worth it do you think? Do you have to rely on others inputting the data to where the vans are etc?
I've been done twice now for speeding in only a matter of a couple of months. I had a clean licence for the last 15 years until I got the Golf!"!!
-
Rest of the World in the instruments Gateway.
I used the beta version of VCDS.
That's what I did.
Had to reset the fuel consumption back to Imp Miler per Gallon (Eng) afterwards...
Looks like I'l be putting it back to UK...as a static 20 MPH figure is little use.
-

Thats what I did too - and the pic above shows what I get. You can try setting it to USA - but then every time you get in the car and put the key in, it bongs like an American car. You also need to change the temp from F to C if I remember correctly.
Its odd that both of yours look different from mine - as I tested this on my loan Golf Plus (59 plate) and it looked exactly the same as mine does. We must've done something slightly different?
-
So changing the coding to MPH the car sits at 20mph showing on the dial ?
Also, p3eps, do you have instructions for all the coding you did ? also the R LED coding ?
-
Maybe on Ess-threes but not on mine or p3eps. It works the way it is meant to work.

thanks, could you post your coding info up you did please mate from the stuff in the first post ?

Hi Folks
I'm interested in getting the VAGCOM cable (this thread has persuaded me) but my vehicle is still under warranty (like most here I'm sure) and I wondered if there were any ramifications from an insurance or warranty perspective?
To be honest, I'm unlikely to undertake anything particularly adventurous but the car has done about 1200 miles and I don't really want the dealership deciding that my tweaking the MFD suddenly means that any issue or failure is attributable to my intervention. Is it possible to flash the log or is there a secondary log backup in the system?
Any thoughts or is there an official line on this? I've not really been able to find anything definitive in any of the VAG forums and wondered if anyone here knew?
Thanks
AGB

Because I've done all my coding in bits and bobs, I've no idea what I've done!
I followed Morty's guide for coding the RNS, and I've edited my HOW TO - FISCON with the coding for that.
Other than that I turned off the seatbelt bong, and changed the speedo.
I never coded my LED lights, as they came as standard
-
Kev what I coded is all on the first page of this thread. This link (http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4743553-VCDS-MKVI-MK6-Platform-Handy-Coding-tweaks)has the actual coding used

Anyone know where I can download VCDS Version 912 beta from please ?
-
They don't seem to have it anymore.
10.3's feature list says in the first line 'All the features of 912' - so go or it!
http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/download/beta/current.html
-
i cant get any values to change, trying to do the lights, it says on byte 18 that its to be changed and yet no matter what i press nothing at all edits in the hex boxes. f**kin sh!t this is.
-
got it this sh!t is easy. lol
-
Christ. You are all such 'High Tech Hannas'!
-
guys have any of you that have changed to rest of the world, have problems with your average fuel consumption not calculating ?
-
Kev,
When you changed your settings to 'REST OF WORLD' did you also change your MPG to MPG (GB)
You will find it in 'SETTINGS' then select 'UNITS' then select 'CONSU./DISTANCE' then select MPG (GB)
Try that, Steve

Thanks Steve, thats already set.

Got it, it was set to consumption 2 instead of consumption 1.
Is it just me or had it opened up a lot more options by changing to rest of the world ?
anyway, its working now.
-
So guys, tell me more about changing the colour scheme of your RNS's?
-
Byte 7, Bit 4/5 gives you the option of highline, sportline & premium.

OK thanks, am I missing something here, how do you actually choose the scheme you require?
-
Yeah you are
In the picture above (which is VAG.COM) at BIT 4 - 5 where it has a drop down box saying "20 Display Variant" you can change the colour scheme to premium, sportline or highline.
-
OK, so they are pre-set, I cant have them all red for example?
-
No they are pre-set.
There are 3 themes and you can only have one theme at a time. The link I posted to Picasso shows what colours are in each theme.
-
Many thanks :-)

But you need to find someone with Vagcom(VCDS) as dealers don't want to do it as they see it as a saftey item.

It allows the RNS510 that I had just installed to work with the camera.
-
Anyone found anything else worth doing? :undecided:
-
I've killed the rear wiper auto wipe on reverse, coded the front fogs to act as cornering lights and front fogs as coming / leaving home lights.
Tried to do the pass mirror dipping in reverse and even got the option in the dis but it didn't work

What options did you tick?
Ta

Im sure i noticed it in the long code helper. :undecided:

Im not sure if it works without the lux pack mirrors.
iirc you have to have the switch set to the left mirror. Set into reverse, set the mirror were you want it with reverse activated. so it knows were to dip to. Something like that.
Would be great if we could get it to work without the lux pack mirrors though.

Just done the staging and the big speedo in the MFD, I also now how the option to have either temp or kmh in the lower display selectable via MFD, winner winner chicken dinner :-)
-
I did the staging earlier too i just found it a shame all the dials don't do it. FIATs and Alfas have done it for years as self tests.
-
If you want to know the day your car was built then do the following.
17-Instruments, Advanced Measuring Values and select the channel called "Day Counter"
This gives the number of days since your car was built.
Mine looks like this
(http://www.thewindinglane.co.uk/images/mk6gti/days.jpg)
You can then use a date calculator like THIS (http://www.timeanddate.com/date/dateadd.html) to find the build date.
This means mine was born on the 19th February 2010.. which concurs with my build week
-
Nice one!
-
Saved me a job, many thanks
-
There must be more i can customise  Im getting itchy fingers.

Does anyone know if I can activate the extra convenience features you guys have without the MFSW?
I'm only getting an SE and it just had the up/down and reset button on the stalk? It could be done on the Leon by fitting a larger MFD, but all the Golf's have the same size one I believe?

I don't know anything about your MFD but on the highline version you need up down left and right along with the OK button control it, so you may have to fit an MFSW to get full functionality, if you can indeed get full functionality :undecided:
Sounds like we'll be spending some time on your motor

Doc, at this rate I'll just take the plunge on the MFSW and hope for the best, the ones I've seen don't come with the air bag, but I think they're all the same aren't they? The centre bit?
I'm just not too sure on whether the required looms will be there :(
-
Just to add Doc, there is a guide on an MK5 Golf with part numbers, new modules etc seem straight forward, if I can get a cheap steering wheel, then this mod should cost me under £200 plus your help with VCDS :D hehe
Just wondering if it'll be the same part numbers or not for the MK6?
-
Only buy the wheel for now and let's see how we get on.
MK5 is quite a bit different, even 2011MY mk6 golfs are different to pre 2011MY versions
The airbag you have should fit
-
Hi all,
Newbie and first post
Have a new Mk6 as of 3 days and in the manual it states i can change the lights for traveling abroad (forces) in the MFD but in the MFD (Highline Colour) this option is not there. Is this an option that needs to be set with VAG.com so it will be seen on the MFD or is there a secret menu that can be activated? Driving me nuts trying to work it out.
Many thanks in advance
Chippy

Hi Chippy and welcome to he MK6 section if the forum
This only works if you have xenon's - do you?
-
cheers for the welcome, unfortunately i do not
Looks like i'll have to use those sticky plastic things to cover the lights if i know where to stick them.

Sorry if this is an old thread but I checked this on mine today and it said Day counter 394 days which is 1 year 29 days. Something is wrong as I picked it up on 27th Jan 2010 which is 365 plus another 116 days (4 months). Plus the actual build date could have been up to a month before.

If the Inst Cluster is the 'D' revision, it'll work.
'H' type.
Sorry this is an old thread but
Tweak 4 – Cluster Staging / Gauge Needle Sweep
Now I've seen this feature on YouTube a few times but they only show the Golf GTI doing this. I searched around and a user on another forum who has a GTD as enabled this feature on his.
Now this will depend which type of instrument cluster you have fitted it must be an 'H' type. If you want to know how you find which type of cluster you have read here (http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4920304-DIY-Cluster-Staging-Gauge-Needle-Sweep-thru-Vag-Com")
Select 17-Instruments
(http://www.myturbodiesel.com/forum/members/keithuk/albums/vcds/639-vcds2.jpg)
Select Adaptation - 10
(http://www.myturbodiesel.com/forum/members/keithuk/albums/vcds/640-instruments.jpg)
Select Staging from the combobox
(http://www.myturbodiesel.com/forum/members/keithuk/albums/vcds/641-staging.jpg)
If it hasn’t been changed it will say not active in the Stored value
Select active from the New value combobox and click Do It!. You will get a message are you sure you want to change not active to active just click yes.

Now when I activated mine I turned the ignition off then on and the needles didn’t sweep I tried this a couple of times. I turned off and removed the key then inserted it and turned on and the both needles swept.
-
when snoopy did mine for me it took a few times for the staging to activate
geoff said it was something to do with the way the ECU prioritises changes you made.
has anyone tried brake assist level 2 yet?
im interested in possibly doing this.

I followed MontyGT140 post on this thread link below when i did it. Worked for me.
You may have to do a reset of the RNS510 afterwards if you get any errors for it to accept the coding.

Is there a guide on how to use vag.com to:
Make car beep when it locks
If windows are down when car is off they go up when locked?
Get rid of the kph and perhaps have jut the speed in the middle or change it with temp?

Well if you have VCDS your should have the manual or you can download it. We also have a 76 sheet Printable Manual that you can download (http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/download/current.html) at the bottom. You can also download and install the lastest version.
I'm not sure you can get rid of the kph display as UK cars have to show both version, but because the scale on the speedo is mph its not dual marked they have to show kph in the MFD.
-
You can get rid of the KPH and replace it with the temperature on every screen by selecting "Rest of the World"
-
Nobody has mentioned altering the diff settings. I've set mine to high and it makes quite a bit of difference,
abs module>adaptation>scroll to channel 36 select from Ave =0, low=1, high=2.
-
For those that has activated the big speedo, is it on a new page on the DIS? i.e. scrolling using the <> buttons you see, Audio - MFD - Bluetooth - Navigation - Settings - Speedo?
It would be nice to have for the novelty factor, but I don't want to see it all the time and need to keep the kph for going to France.
-
Hmmm, I can't seem to get the big speedo to work on mine, but I did find a couple more features that I've added.
1. Turn off the halogen DRL when indicating (like a Mk7)
2. Turn on both front fog/cornering lights when reverse is selected (My Passat does this as standard)

When u change the settings to rest of world via vcds you then have the option to have a digital speed in the display which is the big mph. You can also turn on and off the alt speed display which is the small kph speed above the mileage, when this is off it displays the temperature.

All sorted now thank you. I did it a few days ago and mentioned it in another thread, but forgot that I'd posted in this one too.
