Well I have finally bought another Passat and found this one during my searches, It's a 1.8turbo SE with alloys, full leather and wood! I paid £700 so think I got a decent deal?
The only faults I can see is it will need a suspension arm for it's next MOT, the glove box handle is broken and it blows from an exhaust join.....oh and the oil light has flashed twice!!
Done so far :0 :hyst all donated from my old passat :D
Smoked front indicators, smoked side repeaters, carpet mats & aero wipers
Plans
a proper day cleaning (the leather is dirty but very good otherwise), new rims?, lower suspension (It does feel like a typical se!) & I'm going to clean the oil sump as the service history doesn't state this has being done
Comments, idea's welcomed
-
Well done on such a good deal mate! Look forward to seeing lots of progress
-
Looks a nice clean one Mate :afro:
Are you going to try and replace the wood trim? We had to do that in the gf's Golf
-
Looks really clean and tidy plus cheap enough :afro:
-
looks smart for the cash. nice find.
-
nice one BB
-
Good colour choice!
Needs a remap!
-
If you decide you dont like the wood trim then I still have my original stuff.
(I changed mine to wood)

I think it suits the wood (only because the sterring wheel matches though!) and I agree with the colour (back to lc9z). It really does need a very good clean and a service (the oil dosen't look too fresh and I feel it needs a good good flush).
I was hoping my other Passat would give loads of parts (well the brakes and suspension arms are the same and all replaced under 10000 miles ago)
-
Looks alright apart from that wood
With regards to your oil light, whip the sump off and clean out the pickup. 1.8T's are notorious for that getting blocked
-
Yes I am a bit envious of the wood rimmed steering wheel!
And of course I agree about how good the wood looks!
But not sure I like the cream leather with a black car!
-
Sweet motor, do u like the wood effect then?
-
all it needs is some big rims, dropped on its ass, go down the VIP route with, you have a great base car
-
some blingy rims and low height with a few minor tweaks and I think it will look nice (When you see a black beemer with cream leather no one criticises yet get the same in a vw  :undecided:)
the wood trim is staying for the time being (unless I get some black trim really cheap elsewhere? Or my other passat gives it up)
-
If the wood steering wheel is in the deal I'll swap with ya!
But mine isnt black.
(sort of bronze colour)
-
Well I have to say...I'm keeping my steering wheel!! (It's the same as fitted to W8 models so I'm told?) otherwise it will go on edition with a "rare" tagline!
and 1 week into ownership and I have being playing with a few bits...and found a few issues!
Issues first
both left top suspension arms are fooked!! (luckily my old passat has these in A1 condition) so it will donate all the bits
near side driveshaft or cv joint is fooked! (but as long as I don't use full lock and you should see my 64 point turn in the road :hyst )
oil pressure light seems to come and go (more so when I drive her hard!) so a good clean is coming!
luckily I have being quoted under £200 for labour fixing them issues (parts hopefully should be under £100?)
and I have fixed
the glove box handle that had snapped inside the glove box...a simple strip down and some chemical metal has fixed that (until the wife breaks it!!)
rear bumper was hanging off at both sides so new clips have sorted that and it now hangs correctly
and this is some other things I have done
(http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k165/boneybradley/DSC05672.jpg)
thats a lip spoiler and debadge grille from the old passat....and I swapped the lights after adding some black to the insides
Next.....after fixing the issues!
refurb the wheels.......grey centres and polished rims? Home refurb no3 maybe on it's way?
remove the towbar (It's too old man style...... need I say any more? hey Chuff )
-
I shall be searching for one of those steering wheels now!
-
I have refitted the o.e grille and removed the swan neck from the towbar.
My brother has being staying for the last week and today bought a Corrado VR6 so It would be a waste not taking some photo's
(http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k165/boneybradley/DSC05693.jpg)

(The sun made the photo's difficult to take!! :( )
Next week means new oil pump and top links time!! Hopefully no oil light or knocking?
-

x2 just what i was thinking when i saw the car!!!
-
Your bro's Corrado is looking very nice
Is that what you're going to Elsecar in??
-

He only bought it today so he's wants to go in his Seat mpv thing!!
I may convince him yet?

Make sure he does Mate :afro: If I see you there he can show me around it

Well the oil light is now off! Sorted with a new pump, larger filter, fully sunthetic oil and a really good clean around the sump etc....So I can use all 150 horses without worrying! (maybe it's time for a map?)
and the price was good too £70 for parts and £100 labour (when you think the subframe needed to be lowered to gain bolt access!). The Polish round here are hard workers and very cheap!
-
Good result there then Adey!
Yea get yourself down to Rtech for a map! The results are great!
My wife likens the performance to jet take off when off on hols! And tbh it aint far short!
You just have to go careful in 1st and 2nd as all you do is spin the wheels or burn the clutch!

REsult
-
again no new pictures...but I have being painting my current wheels (and have gone for something slightly different?) pic's to follow when there done and fitted
and I have bought a full front suspension arm kit that dhl have failed to deliver so far!! (I have to say I hate dhl now and think there useless bstards as it should of being here before the weekend!
and I have bough a small piece of exhaust that connects the downpipe to the mid box and hopefully this will give some extra boost? (if not at least it will sound normal again!)
-
Well I have spent the last few days repainting/refurbing the rims
and here's how they look
(http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k165/boneybradley/DSC05726.jpg)
Ok there only 15's but I am unsure of which wheels to go for yet!! (plus I'm skint :hyst ) I may make another refurb thread showing how I got them 2 colours?
(b.t.w It's a vauxhall silver I have used :-j )
Makes them different? :smug:
-
should have done the cente caps silver :lipsrsealed:
oh and needs slamming
-
They look loads better.
-
Great value for money looking really clean and as already said some bigger rims and lowered and its a winner
-
Hey up our kid !
Bloody door handle snapped inside today so i hope you've still got your old passat rear handles ?
Also after a good look underneath i have sussed the rear crashing over bumps is a leaking ( leaked ) shocker and the rear bushes looked pretty fooked as far as i can see, that looks a nice job !
Will bell you tonight
-
Thought I should update as to why my car is wearing 3 of my repainted rims....this is what I noticed when the wheel was off!!
luckily the tyres off my old passat are the same size and in better condition..so a trip to a tyre shop this weekend should see me safe again!
but on good news this package arrived today....
-
Only a small update
I have being playing with the back end a bit! half smoked tail lights and some play around with 2 sets of passat letters have made this
(http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k165/boneybradley/DSC05775.jpg)
and after a very good clean inside I have got some proper fitting mats (£13 from the bay)
still to do a.s.a.p........... n/s drive shaft as it clicks on full lock, the rest of the front suspension bushes, rear brake discs and pads (from my old b5) and swap some tyres over (again from my old b5) and later will be lowering time!!
-
my driveshaft has been clicking for months  :lipsrsealed:
-
i love the badge "PSSSST" that's cool!
-
If I had a Passat id sooo have to have 'Pissrat' on the boot.

loving the vr6 corrado!!! try cleaning the oil pump out as mine was doing the same (no oil getting to the top when the oil has settled down.mad4vws cleaned it out and its all good!!!
BTW does the spoiler come up on the vr6??
-
well I failed at window tinting so I am looking for blinds instead!!
and today I finished a full polish, lots of wax and a seal which has given me chance to get some better pictures

-
Needs lowering
-
It really does.
-
I am working on the lowering... still got the rest of the suspension arms to fit and new brakes to go on, plus I'm trying to buy decent quality parts (with little cash!) but it will be done soonish
-
Blinds

Gets my vote :afro:
-
I didn't update this when I did this work but I have being doing some under bonnet tidying........(painted to match the wheels)
I am also losing the badgeless grille as I have fully colour coded the o.e grille and badge, plus I am getting the blinds shortly (the wife has decided to take 2 more months off work unpaid!! so I am needing to sell my kidney's for parts's at the moment!!)
-
Looks really good under the bonnet.
-
Wish mine was that clean! Might be worth copying the paint then!
-
It's now fully Mot'd.....and it had 1 advisory only (front brake in-balance!! new discs may sort that though?)
time to fit all the bits I have waiting!! (cv joint, front suspension arms and rear brakes so far!)
-
Get fitting man! Those front suspension will make a great difference!
-
Looking good! :afro:
-
loving the vr6 corrado!!! try cleaning the oil pump out as mine was doing the same (no oil getting to the top when the oil has settled down.mad4vws cleaned it out and its all good!!!
BTW does the spoiler come up on the vr6??
[/quote]
You bet it does !!!! i've just lubed up the motor & mechanism to keep it that way too :nerd:
-
Well minor update....... but as it's getting the front suspension bushes and the dodgy driveshaft sorted next week all looks good (plus a sticky handbrake/caliper!)
here's a bit of retro styling to hide some imperfections on the front
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6090/6158637961_0fd19b3d27_b.jpg)
maybe not everyone's taste....but until I find a different front bumper it's hiding things well!! And the wife hates them so thats an added bonus
Oh and a new suspension kit will be making it's way to me very shortly (either fk ak coilovers or an fk shock/spring kit?)
Projects for autumn?
Re varnish the wood inside with ebony stain stuff (black)
new alloys (17's maybe??)
fit new brakes all round (312mm would be nice!)
Re-map (once the suspension can cope with the power!! It stuggles with 150!)
-
Well I had a few ££ spare and spent it on the car!
I'm not 100% happy with the grille fitment but I will be making it fit better next week (bending it so it fits!! and yes it's a proper Kamei!)
and Finally...My new suspension is here, a simple 55/40 FK kit (gas shocks and springs) so It will be going down next week! Hopefully it will be better ride than coilovers?
-
I drove through Selby on Friday!
Nice grille!
-
Not sure on that grille but others seem to like it as they seem to have jizzed on your car.
-
New lows with a full 55/40 fk suspension kit

It catches few speed humps and is firmer but it handles much better and doesn't squat under acceleration
-
Nice car, cant believe how much car you get for your money...
looks better now shes lower to the ground!
dont mean to sound dumb but is it rwd?
-

Nah, you won't find a RWD VW bar the Nardo or something air-cooled.
-
Hmmmmm if it dont squat under acceleration.........
But how much firmer is the ride?
-
Hmmmmm if it dont squat under acceleration.........
But how much firmer is the ride?
they say 30% for the kit.... and although it's firm it's better than coilovers (I guess I'm comparing to se soggy suspension too!)

Thats what i thought, but just noticed the way the engine was sitting and though "mmm i wonder" lol
-
Similar set up to Audi's in that the engine is right out front of the axle and mounted longitudinal rather than transverse.
I do love the ride as it is and with the remap dont really need to go flat out rounds bends as you soon get back to speed.
I'd like to get mine lower but can live with it as is.
-
Looks really good. I can't believe you got all that car for £700
Liking the sound of the Ebony black stain you have planned.
-
well lowered means hassle round my area! 2 huge speeds humps and a floor/sills meeting don't make good noises!
and she's now developed a groan (it disappears on acceleration and braking) which needs looking into, wheel bearing, cv joint or something else???
-

Yeah tell me about it! cant get out of second gear sometimes!
cv joint will only be on cornering no? wheel bearing will be constant i think, is it like a rubbing groan? perhaps heat shield?
-
Well It's being a while since I updated........but I've done some minor and major changes
Benz 17" wheels with very good pzero's - some stickers/badge playing - roof glass spoiler - rear window blinds.....and it's now like this (and needing a proper clean!)
and next is new aux belt pulley and belts and a good service (and a good clean when the sun comes! :-? )
-
looks really good, I hope to meet again on vwfestival
-
Looking good BB :afro:
Was the rear window spoiler easy to fit?
-
Were you down this way recently?
-
Were you down this way recently?
Nope I'm too knackered to drive anywhere! (so my doc says!)
and andy the window spoiler was just tiger sealed onto the glass... 2 minute job
-
Looks great on those wheels :afro:
-
Like the front grille!
-
Well I have done a few jobs since my last update..... the car has being fully serviced, new aux tensioner and belts, new scuttle tray and aero wiper arms plus you can see the sun shades on these pictures (unlike last time!)... and it now says PAST IT on the back!!
Next on the list.......
I have a battery cover (that needs modding to fit) but will tidy the engine bay that bit more, so either I sell and get the correct one or I modify what I have?
Wheel refurb (darker spokes and polished rim?)
and a proper valet (I've damaged my shoulder so I can't polish at the mo!!)
and len the grille is a kamei (ebay.de and was cheap!!). fk do one similar for little £££
-
Thanks Boney!
Will have to have a think about that grille.
Aero wiper blades? Halfords?
Need some new ones myself.
-
Looking good
-
little £££?
£106.15 aint exactly little!
-
little £££?
£106.15 aint exactly little!
I paid less for my proper Kamei! (b.t.w FK one for under 15 euro's + carriage http://www.fk-shop.de/Sportgrill-oxid/Sportgrill-Metall/Sportgrill-Metall-Grill-VW-Passat-Metallgitter-schwarz.html)
and len my car has aero wiper arms now, if you need the old one's with aero blades, let me know
-
Ah! Me bad!
I looked at fk but not the german version. D'oh!
Will contact on the wipers.
-
I have started to make the car look a bit better and here's the first part (after several months of being unable to do much heavy work due to a dicky shoulder)
I did my old wheels the same colour and decided to use again (as my engine covers are the same colour).
oh and she passed her m.o.t a few weeks back, so another 12 months of motoring for nowt! (except a 60p bulb)
and to come..... well she's going to get some much needed paint correction done shortly.
-
Looking well BB :afro:
Did you paint the wheels yourself??
-
Lovin those painted wheels!
-
Did you paint the wheels yourself??
yep...forth set I've done now :smug:
-
well it was hit by the bin men on friday and they gave it some free mods
(http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8062/8192018037_8c9378c6b4.jpg)
the question is will they repair?? (this could easily be a cat c write off!) :undecided:
-
They should repair it but if it needs a quarter panel I suspect it will be a write off.
-
Had similar damage on mine and it was repaired.
-
Had similar damage on mine and it was repaired.
It's now at the bodyshop so the next few days will decide!
-
Big hammer time then!
-
well the car is back from the bodyshop and they have done a decent job (and fixed a bumper scrape that I don't think was from the wagon?).... so it's back to modding and I'm thinking of idea's
Currently the Kamei grille is off (I'm undecided to keep or sell?), I'm searching for a front bumper (as this one has bad laquer peel) and I'm starting to tart the inside wood pieces (black wood??)
oh and I'm thinking of changing the rims? Anyone want some 5x112 Mercedes 17's (full set of pzero's fitted and also use tuner bolts )
-
Great news mate glad its been fixed.
Will have the grille off ya if you decide to sell.
As for those wheels, well I would have to paint them gold and not sure I want that on the Passat!
-
Well I'm selling the Passat..
178000 miles and still going strong but my insurers want £500 to add the wife to my policy!! so it's time to shop around and start a new project
(I would keep it and buy another car but we need my insurance discounts etc otherwise any shed will cost the wife £1500 to insure! and that will be my fault....... which may be true as I suppose I am a share holder at Aviva :lipsrsealed:)
-
We'll my days with the Pssat may be numbered.... (the wife can insure a mk3 GTi much easier than this!!)
here's some shots as she is currently standing (rear is now debadged)

she needs one last clean up before she goes anywhere.....let's hope for a dry/sunny Saturday!!
-
She's looking good mate,
Also hoping for a dry weekend
