Title: CR TDI sounds rubbish! improvements?
Post by: Dipesh2031 on 28 May 2014, 13:28
Hi,

I have a GTD and was wondering if this would fit, after some extra sound cheaply, as the CR engine sounds so rubbish compared to my old 1.9 stage 1, no turbo whistle or noise at all :(

http://www.neuspeed.com/480283-tdi-turbo-discharge-pipe.html

if it doesn't, what do you guys reckon about an intake? afe makes intakes, but are around $300 us seems a bit pricey just for extra sound :(

also, forgot to say, before anyone talks about performance of an intake on TDI's I understand they will make 0bhp, I'm just after a little zing when I push the accelerator

I have a Milltek DPF back, GTI style and does little for noise. Remove the parcel shelf and drop the back seat and you can hear the extra growl. In effect makes the car a 2 seater but hey ho summers here!

Is your milltek resonated or non resonated? I'm looking for a dual exhaust like that, Darkside developments have a cr exhaust video on youtube and it sounds mean as hell!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9d-a3g9Lo4 < I think for a diesel it sounds amazing, I want this kind of sound with maybe an intake added, would equal nice sounding diesel!

Non resonated, it does have a deep drone at about 2000rpm. The tuner that did the remap prior to changing the exhaust was well impressed with standard exhaust. To be fair the milltek did nothing to performance after the remap. Was more done for cosmetic appearance.

Checked out the you tube video....A milltek is sadly not for you! The last time i heard a sound like that was in a 1976 Ford Escort 1600 sport with a Peco exhaust..i was young daft and my hearing wasn't an issue...Now who does cheapish hearing aid batteries ?

The car in that video has no DPF, which means technically it also doesn't have a valid MOT..
vosa are getting pretty hot on such modifications lately unfortunately

I hear the whole DPF delete thing will be an issue very soon, and will filter down over the next few years to small mot garages, milltek have a pipe that looks like a dpf!
also what are the laws of taking off the cat on a diesel?

Thanks

I dropped an email to my local custom exhaust place so I'll post up what he says / hopefully do

I think the milltek pipe is a bit useless tbh, most people know a factory pipe isn't polished and most I've seen on various cars is purple etc with sensors in the dpf housing, I don't know how many people would be fooled, I might just take the plunge on the darkside custom system tbh...I'll give them an email.

Well my exhaust place will take my existing DPF (sat in the shed!) cut it open, re-weld and fit to the car for under £200

Apparently (only going by what they said) they DPF only has to be fitted and not necessarily working.....

Its also a £2000 fine for any garage found to have removed the DPF........

well, I made a few emails and was advised on the whole DPF issue, and tbh I might just stay away from it, or keep it, but put it lower down the pipe on a custom downpipe?
