i have heard of a few peeps on here complaining of a noise coming from the door lock area
Anybody shed any light on this problem or had a fix done by the dealers
I am taking my car in for service next week and was going to mention it to them, is it the striking pin that just needs adjustment ??

It seems VW know about this and some have had this sorted.
There was a Mk6 in today at my VW service dept for this same problem, though I don't know the outcome as I am not a nosy parker!
I think Gizzy is going to get her knocking door lock sorted by VW.
Now what about my problem, please?
The clonking centre armrest. Bloody annoying.
-
Mine is going in on Monday for them to have a look at the door lock.
Will post on their findings and solutions.
Gizzy

It clunks when I put my arm on it.
I know exactly where it is coming from but cannot cure it myself. It is a loose runner. I'll try some WD40 tomorrow.

I had a rattle from both doors and it went into the dealers for two days. When I went to collect the car the tech who had worked on it wasn't around, so I asked for someone to call me with details of the solution. Didn't happen. Anyway, whatever they did has completely solved the problem.
-
Cheers Alan,
So still non the wiser but atleast you got your rattles cured
-
Had new door locks fitted today to cure problem. Seems to have worked

New door locks
Is it a problem that VW are aware of do you know ?
-
Seemed that way. Tech knew straight away what it was.
-
Is it just me because im looking at it in the pooring rain this morning or are the door latches/locks plastic
-
No, the door locks are metal. The rest of the car is plastic.

Sorry Neil
Yeah well they couldn't find anything wrong and funnily enough since their fiddling around with the door it has stopped knocking so all seems to be ok for now. Good luck with yours.
Pretty useless lot a VW garages tho cos they seem a bit clueless about their cars was mentioning about getting LEds fitted and they reckon you can't do it

No I have not cured the clunking centre armrest.
Now it clonks and clunks when I go over bumps.
It's bloody loose on the runner.
-
Been to Stealers today for its 1st service £110 incl vat
Got them to look at the clunking on the doors and rear cupholder,
Striker plates adjusted and some sort of sealer to the rubbers, Problemo solved
Also rear cupholder replaced under warranty  even thou a passenger had kicked it while it was in the out position when he was climbing in the back drunk
Also didn't even try washing the car just told the girl on the desk no washy car comprendah

Car goes in for replacement door lock on drivers side on Wednesday. Seriously annoying noise. Takes the fun right out of driving it, giving lifts to people etc Also the flap that hides the ashtray and fag lighter now won't catch all the time. Could have been the heat I suppose but what a pathetic design if so.
Pretty terrible quality from VW and a car that cost £26k really.
-
I've read on another VW forum that the ashtray cover not closing is a common problem.
-
The stuff they prob used on the door rubbers was prob 00V 096 310A rubber maintance can.

Maybe this helps for creaking;

I think i can get the idea for pads 1 and 2 from the photos but im not sure were number 3 goes :undecided:
Im guessing this is a VW bulletin of some sort? and its saying stick some sticky back foam in certain places?
Any chance you could explain what it meens abit for me please
Thank you
Geoff.
-
You mean you can't read German Geoff
Quick adjustment of the striker plates seamed to cure my clunking and the rubber treatment stopped the creaking
-
The fix says it's for a 2 door golf and interestingly says apart for wind noise, eventually waterdrops will be seen (on the B pillar). There are only 2 pads to fix as it says to take the big pad and cut it into 2 smaller ones. They are then stuck behind the trims as shown in picture 3.
Hope this helps

Thanks.

Called VW yesterday, at 3pm because I hadn't heard anything. Girl there said that they were having trouble working out what they needed to do on the car because the orders were confused. I said it's the bloody door lock which you had to order in specially that needs replacing, she said, oh, ok. I asked whether it would be fitted that day and she assured me it would. 2 mins later the phone goes and she is back on again saying that she was sorry but the car would not be ready that day and I could have a courtesy car (which turned out to be a banana coloured polo-just out of spite I reckon).
So I got to the garage after being packed on to a tram with loads of Green Day fans heading to the LCC in Trafford and when I got to the garage I went mental. Well as mental as I get which is to say I ranted for about five minutes and made an official complaint. This car, allegedly worth £26k and made by high precision german engineers/robots is rattling. It's not a complex gearbox, suspension or engine problem. Its not electrical in nature or linked with the ECU. It's a rattle, pure and simple, and they have now had it in three seperate times over the last 3 months or so, replacing bits here and bits there, each time saying its sorted and even before I exit the forecourt the noise is still there. Now they can't even muster up enough brains between them to work out how to change a door lock and why. It is a complete embarassment to VW.
The Service Manager is meant to be calling me today so I can rant at him a bit more, usually I have better things to do with my life than get angry all the time but, on this occasion, I'm going to make an exception.
-
^ Go to a different dealer.
-
There seems to be two different problems here :-
1. A rattle / clunking from the door lock area and
2. A creaking from the doors / rubber / central pillar area
My car suffers from the 2nd and on some days it sounds quite bad (seems to be weather dependant)
I've tried all sorts of treatment to the door rubber and none of them have had any effect
I've also tried the pad fix (as shown a few posts above) but this has had no effect either
I'm thinking of a trip to the stealer now to get the door plates adjusted to tighten the door (as they seem to shut too a bit too easily, and even move very slightly when shut)
Has anyone else had the creaking completely cured ? and what was the fix ?
Cheers

(1) Costant ticking noise on from the instrument binnacle. At first I thought it was the FM radio signal. But it is not. I can stop it by putting slight pressure along the bottom part. It's most annoying.
(2) Clonking centre armrest.
-
Jonny,
Adjusting the striker plates sorted mine, it was a very bad clunking noise from both door lock areas, been done a week now and i have even driven a couple of times with the radio off and not a sound  job sorted
-
Jonny,
Adjusting the striker plates sorted mine
Cheers Neil, I think that will be my next step then

The U shaped bit on the body where the door lock clicks into

I suffer from this too. Doesn't massively bother me, but if your dealer manages to fix let me know the solution.
I need to pay my dealer a visit anyway to re-fit the rear diffuser which is coming away from the rear bumper on the left-hand side.
-
Had the car back now and I think the replacement door latch has helped (hope by saying this this wont put the "mockers" on it.
There is still a clunk sometimes but only when pulling away. Will have a look at the striker plates as recommended :undecided:
