remapping-how safe is it?

]I have not long bought myself a GT TDI 150 and am considering getting it remapped.What are the pro's and con's of getting this done as i would like more power without loosing 
fuel consumtion,also would i need to upgrade anyother engine parts?
It would be great just to have some feedback on this as i am a tad worried it might do the engine more damage in the long run.

generally the engines cope very well with the re-map.  Obviously you are going to be wearing parts out faster than usual but the engines have good strong internals.

although not having my car remapped i know several that have and they comment that fuel consumption is largely unchanged due to the fact you have more power available in each gear, thus less need for gear changes.

as long as you keep up with regular servicing you shouldn't encounter any problems

I would be a bit concerned about the extra torque and its effect on the gearbox - longterm.

yeah i think your right mate,my gearbox is already in just now getting fixed so who knows what it will be like after being remapped
