Our new friend Nick from RTech Performance Tuning ( http://www.bigbhp.co.uk/ ) has very kindly offered a free remap to one lucky forum member.
To qualify your car must be a 1998 or 1999 AGU model, and you must be willing to have your car video'd during the process and provide a small customer review. If I'm available on the day I will also pop down with our official forum photographer (read: my nephew) to take some snaps for the site and get some feedback. The proposed date for this to take place is March 15th.
Put your name below if you're interested and the lucky candidate will be picked by myself and Nick. Preference will go to longstanding members (since it's a special gift exclusive to this forum, and I don't want people signing up just to get a freebie  ) but even newbies are welcome to apply! I will contact the chosen person directly once we've decided so please don't flood my inbox with requests or bribes
Good luck!
And the winner is Marco Rossi! Enjoy the power mate
-
I would be very interested! I am also willing to be the forum rent boy for 3 months to show appreciation if I won :)
-
Mine is sept 99 mate. I think that qualifies me.

Pop the engine cover off, 3 letters will be stamped into a tag that sticks out the front of the head on the left hand side. Failing that it 'should' be on the sticker in the boot and in the handbook.

Hi!
We are making a video to show on our stand at the 2008 GTI inters at Bruntingthorpe and the only reason we as looking for a 99 AUG to remap / video is that we already have OBD remap on a AUM that has been on the rollers and filmed. The remap method on the AGU is direct to chip remap unlike the AUM OBD remap. To get the right setup and best performance from the remap we will require your engine to be running a 100% recirc DV.
You will be getting a top quality remap which will out perform any other branded remap. Power gains will be around 195 to 205BHP with 9 section of the map files being taken into account and tuned, most other tuners will only alter a few maps fuel and boost settings. We have carried out 100s of remaps for the 1.8t and TDIs, with every customer 100% happer with the power gains.
At last year GTI Fest at Santa Pod we remapped a A3 1.8t on our stand. The A3s 1st run unmapped was 16.4s second run was a 14.3s, which as againt a revo remapped Golf with the same spec the A3 won.
We are looking for someone to come to us on the 15th March if poss?
-
I can't believe the free remap offer had to be posted here!! it's being in the new members bit a few days and no one noticed from this area....are you all becoming like the mk5 crew?? :lipsrsealed:
i will now scurry back to the mk3 section.......it's scarey in here!

On my door step then! I was born in Meadow Close stoney Stanton.
We can off a remap for the 2.0 8v with the Bosch ecu only, We can remap the Siemens ecu but it will take a good 6 hour to emulate map on the rollers.
The Bosch remap gains are around 16bhp &22NM which aint to bad but Siemens will ony be around 8 to 10bhp max..

I'd like to point out it's my birthday on 6th March, what an excellent present that would be! And I'm planning on getting a Forge recirc DV with my birthday money! :P Out of curiosity, where are you doing the re-map?
-
Hinckley in Leicestershire is where they are based.
-
Hinckley in Leicestershire is where they are based.
Cheers fella, I could manage that :)
-
my car is all ready remapped with custom-code but i do have an agu and would be cool to compare. so i would like to be added if i can.
-
I'll add you to the list, but you may have to get your custom-code map removed first.. just thinking back to the time that jabbasport had trouble removing my revo map. I'm sure Nick can answer that.
-
Did you know that a 5hr revo trial remap leaves the car with 5% less power than standard?. Revo change the coding inside the serial eeprom, which locks the ecu out to any other tuning tools. so it can be a pain in the backside for any other tuner to remap. but there is a ball ache way to getting the trial remap removed and getting our setting to take place.
I dont know if custom code change the serial eeprom codes it if was a direct to chip remap then we could copy the custom code file for you and put on disc, then find a standard file which matches your car then produce the remap from there.? but if we cannot read the ecu it might be a wasted trip for you.
Nick
-
I'd put my name down but it would be a hell of a trip up for me, I'd probably have to leave home at about 4am!!
-

I was thinking the same thing as well, but short of photographing myself against a wall wearing just a bra and knickers I think my chances are rather slim, unless your average GTI modder is gay ;)
-
hi, i know i'm new n that but i thought i'd stick my name down also, traded in my car for a 1.8t gti (1999)at the weekend because me and the wife are expecting a baby soon, completly standard car, full service hisory etc

hehe well, i've came from a car with a lot more poke so i'm using everything i've got to try get it! :P
So what your saying is that someone that's not had a fast car before deserves it more? ;)
-
I'll add you to the list, but you may have to get your custom-code map removed first.. just thinking back to the time that jabbasport had trouble removing my revo map. I'm sure Nick can answer that.

no no, you've got me all wrong, i'm merely thinking of the welfare of the people who havent experienced that sort of power before, i think it would be dangerous and irresponsable to offer it to a 'lesser experienced' driver, hence me offering myself up (for the sake of safety) to be given the remap!
see, a truely selfless act!! :P
-
RTechUK, for those of us not lucky enough to win, will you do us a good deal on the price of a re-mapping? ;)
-
Hi!
I have spoken to my partner he agrees, if it its ok with the forum admin, mods we can offer discounted rates to Golf Gti members with x-amount of posts.
We are not here to sell make money, We here to promote our products and get some reviews for our services.
We don’t want to sell our remaps! We want them to sell themselves!
Our prices are a lot cheaper than all the well known remap franchises, we are totally independent and don’t need to pay middle man wages or huge nationwide promotional adverts. We will only spend £5000 a year on advertising and promotions; this includes show stands and plots charges. Because our remaps are cheaper then the franchised dealers is don’t mean the quality is compromised. The current Rolling Road we are using cost over £80k, It is one of a hand full in the UK which has a quad 4wd eddy brake system which can set hold 2200BHP at all 4 wheels. It even has a ¼ sprint run option which Christmas tree lights starting block which is identical to the starting strip at Santa pod. (Gadgets I love em)
We do a lot of selling on ebay where we have 100% good feedback from VW Gti , T5 174bhp owners to 2007 BMW M3 owners. Our prices are from £265 for a 1.8T remap, Then upto £490 for something like a BMW 2007 635D. But every now and then we do special offers at certain times of the years when the tuning game is quiet.
Nick.
To 20v don’t worry. Sh*t happens but not to my customers. Is it you who is booked in for the first job you booked in for this Saturday Morning? If so I will offer you a discount on the price. A discount because you’re a member and you could do me small review aswell.?
-
why? lol because thats AGES away !
ages r u kidding thts 3 months
and i pick the car up this sunday so still need to get everything i need and a full 3000 respray i think thts bloody quick if u ask me
-

RTechUK, and the admins, I'm absolutely gutted that I'm going to have to withdraw my name, it turns out my girlfriend has something planned on 15th March for my birthday, so I wouldn't be able to make it to the garage that day. I am beyond gutted
I would however be interested in coming to you guys for a re-map some time, especially if we could work something on the price, I'd be happy to pop some small advertising in my window to say your company re-mapped my car etc, or do a review, or let someone do a review on it, whatever :)

I think the Saturday 15th will be a good day. We have a BMW Z4 3.2M, 2x Golf mk4s AUM 1.8T KO3s, identical specs for some comparison tests, one Golf has a decat pipe and we are wanting to see how much extra power a decat will produce with on of our remaps. Plus if we can fit them in a Range Rover Supercharged Sport height is an issuse with the dyno cell and a Mk2 Astra Turbo running 450 to 500bhp if its back up and running after the rebuild.. I best get the brush out and start to sweep up.
Nick
-
ha ha you guys make me laugh
we all wanna win it but lets face it ladies first :P

You must really love re-mapping then to do it to all your vehicles! :)
And your after a Golf eventually too! I would dream of a Golf I could get 300bhp out of, but stage 2/3 turbo's cost the bomb! :P
-
stage 2/3 turbo's cost the bomb! :P
Not to mention everything else you would have to do to stop it from going in a straight line when you come to a corner.
-
once i have had mine mapped an i get used to the speed i expect i will upgrade to a larger turbo :)
-
Linz, its not as simple as just sticking on a new turbo. imo unless you want to go silly fast a simple remap and a few extra bits and bobs the standard 1.8T engine and turbo do the job pretty good.

ditto :afro: don't see the point in silly power; where and when will you use it?? obviously great for overtaking but then you'll find yourself taking more and more chances :undecided:

ture words rhyso as i once learned in my mk1 golf nearly went down a cliff just hanging on .
but i have learnt my lesson now.

A remap is your starting block once you start tuining you cannot stop and it can be very adictive.
Take my mate Andy, 10 years tuning on one car and one engine with well over £20K on the engine alone. ( He now has the quickest road legal Astra in europe)
I went the same way with my car but stopped at £4k, well I have sort of stopped i think?? Icould do with a higher flow rate fuel pump and 440cc injectors for that bit more power to play with before I sell her in the summer. but then when I have the extra fuel potential I would want to take that to its limit by adding more boost to keep the fuel to air ratio correct so a even bigger turbo will deal with this, then back to square 1, 777cc injectors with 2 fuel pumps to allow the bigger turbo. it never stops.. lots of spent £Â£Ã‚£Ã‚£Ã‚£Ã‚£ and a Nagging missus.

ah i no what ya all sayin n rtech is rite it can get addictive but to me i would get it for speed and for show purposes :)

Hi.
No I dont know of Renntech? name sounds close, R-Tech comes from "REMAP-TECHNICIAN" But we will soon be www.UKREMAPS.com in the summer at the GTi Inter 2008

Hello chaps!
Has everyone who is keen on the free remap got there names down? We will be picking a forum member around 8pm tonight.
Also what "might" be included is a set of prototype uprated coil packs which which are stronger and offer better power to the Plugs over the OME version. Testing should be finished by the 13th March if so we will include them with the free remap.
Get your names down peeps!
Nick

cheers for the chance ov the free re-map n good luck to all

sounds like either a MAF or coilpack problem

get an exchange one from VW for about £70; a test in the meantime would be to unplug it; if it runs better than its fooked; if it doesn't its not

Hi!
Sounds like a MAF, or boost issue, with the boost not being able to hold the constant high volume boost or over boosting then cutting back then boosting again, could also be weak, DV, spilt pipe, weak actuatoretc. Your best bet it to start with the MAF and DV.
We only have 4 coilpacks in the UK at the moment, they are due to be tested thursday on one of my fitters own AUM. If all tests go well they will be put in to production so we will be getting them for the Summer. This is the comapny who we are working with on the coil packs. http://www.xspec.co.uk/Subaru%20index.htm
If you ever want to pop down to me I will take a look at your map and check for faults with the car if needed. We are always willing to help.
Congratulations to Marco Rossi
I am sure you will be even more happy on the 15th. I am looking forward to it video cam on the ready.
All we ask for is honest non bias feedback on our product and service.

I've just found out why I wasn't allowed to make the re-map date of 15th March :)

Soooooooooooooooooooo, did this happen and what was the outcome ?
-
Yes it did go ahead but as ever my luck didnt hold out for long.
Topher also came down to oversee the proceedings so he can probs give a better summary of what went down.
Anyways, the actual remap went ahead but I apparently have a split pipe or summat even worse wrong wi me car. The boost kept droppin off. Was gettin 14psi which dropped right down to 5-7. So I guess I have to sort out that problem before i get the full result of the ramap. I'm gonna quote Nick from R-Tech (who was a very nice chap btw) cos im crap wi technical sh!t. "once the R-Tech spec 1 remap was in the ecu the peak power was 169BHP at the flywheel the peak power was around 1000rpm below the 197bhp peak power. I have looked on past dybo run from last week on AGUs and you power curve is on the correct line until the boost starts to fall off. So in therory you should be good for 195+bhp when the leak is fixed."
Anyways i will keep yas updated.
On top of this frustration at my car I am now single. They say bad luck comes in threes so my laptop will probably blow up as im typi

sorry to hear that mate, keep your head up and i wish you the best bro
-
Yep all was looking good on the map until the car started losing boost under certain load conditions. The splitter valve was cranked right back to full re-circ mode (still don't trust those valves) but made no difference. There was nothing in the logs to suggest that the ECU was pulling the boost, so chances are there's a split hose somewhere or a loose end fitting that is letting boosted air out under high pressure.
Ben it might be helpful to find out exactly what it was your mate did to the car when it was 'fixed', as it seems they just camouflaged the initial problem by chucking more boost through.
-
aww no way well im sure your luck will turn aroud just think you can get the car sorted it will be pimp and then you can use her to pick up a new gf :P
-
Hi!
The best results of the day was from my transit van which we played around with in the afternoon. Standard fly wheel power was 85bhp, after the remap in made 97bhp at the wheel which works out around 130bhp engine power.
We also had James mk4 Gti Na 2.0 16v on the rolling road, which kicked out the extra 10bhp as predicted.
Marcos 1.8t had already been remapped in the past to sort out some running issues. before we worked on the car we did a power run which made 165bhp at the wheels, we remapped the car expecting closer to 200bhp, but the next run with our remap only turned out 169bhp . We thought the was an issue with our lazer rpm pick up which connects to the cars crank but this was fine?? we carried out another run and noticed the boost only peak to 12psi and then dropped to around 5psi. I am 100% sure once this boost bleed has been sorted the engine will make 195bhp+.
I will try and get some pictures and videos posted up of the day.
Nick
-
So do you need another car to try again for the results? ;)
