Today I used a vacuum bleed kit to try and suck some air out the lines. As having trouble with a spongy pedal.  Pedal is firm when cold and once warm it does goes soft. Definitely shouldn't be brake fade with the xp8's and plus if I pump the pedal, it does go firm again.

Typically it starts to rain as soon as I take wheel off. Needed a shower anyway lol

so didn't really take any more pics because it was like trying to use your phone under water.
Also thought I would try tightening the brake lines, and got bit of a turn on them.
Still need to go out and test them. If it still persists then it may be master cylinder, but this looks like a new item and not the original from 1998.

also decided to have a little tinker and check ICV and vacuum pipes.

what a fiddle little job that was! Not if you got tiny little girl hands , but big fat cock fingers its tricky.  Plus the last bastard that worked on the damn thing thought he would have a laugh and put all the jubilee clips on with the screws facing the back of the car. So with a few c words and patience tested I got it off.

Then the inner child came out and I thought about running the trumpets upside down sticking out the bonnet.

ICV taken out and cleaned with carb cleaner.

Thats all for today :)

That does look like a newly fitted Servo the ali still looks fresh from the bead blaster....
Could be a recon?

Never thought of that and don't have history of it being changed. Its possible.
Don't know how much a genuine one is but can get them for £170 so not too bad.

Abs was playing up and after a year of playing hide and seek with the abs light, it finally stayed on long enough to run a test.
Front right speed sensor.

New pagid going in
20150418_172409 by tweedub, on Flickr

Noticed the holes in the disc's was blocked. Could be the carbotech xp8 pads as very dusty, but worth checking yours!

Also see a little crack. Disc's have only done 5k
20150418_171041 by tweedub, on Flickr

So now I've got the dreaded vanos fault. It's got a loss of power low revs. Thought is was solenoids, but all checked and are fine.

I have ordered the uprated rubber O ring seals from Beisan. Kit is $80 and express delivery is $47. Need it done before the ring in 3 weeks.

Also changed gearbox oil.

Gearbox oil may look black but was quite clean. So good sign car has been looked after ;)

Next up will be vanos rebuild and a oil service.
All this is done at 67k

Got my GB plates on ready for Germany

I hate a front plate

20150505_195945 by tweedub, on Flickr20150505_201208 by tweedub, on Flickr

They are the wrong front and that's my mistake!  I'll order the correct font when I get back.

Also the strut braces and oil got delivered in 24 hours.

Will get these on tomorrow hopefully.

So oil service will be just under 5k from the last! But I've just changed gearbox oil and will be doing vanos and valve shims, so may as well be inspection 2 service.

Anyway I got Fuchs titan race pro s 5w40 again. It was £53.95 for 6 litres from demonstweeks. Love a bargain

Strut braces. Should be an easy job! Well not for me!

First of all as you can see from picture above. The bolt was 6mm to long
20150507_193109 by tweedub, on Flickr
Then this bracket and weld are in the way. Tapped the little ****e down with a big hammer.
Still needed the grinder though. Grinders and hammers solve everything

Well last few days I've been fitting the rear strutbrace :muttley:

I got a cheap £35 ebay rear brace but when I tried fitting it, it didn't quite fit. I had a look and it seemed two holes had been drilled in the wrong place. After emailing the seller a few times to come to a solution, I noticed I in fact bought a e46 rear brace :roflmao:

So with e36 rear braces starting at £90 and short time scale before the ring, I thought I would make it fit!

Cleaned up for earth and welding

20150512_202055 by tweedub, on Flickr

20150512_202059 by tweedub, on Flickr

I didn't have copper to clamp to it so welding wasn't that neat.

20150512_210457 by tweedub, on Flickr

Cleaned up with grinder

20150512_211816 by tweedub, on Flickr

Marked up for drilling

20150512_212732 by tweedub, on Flickr

Now holes in the right place for e36 :)

20150512_214936 by tweedub, on Flickr

Just to make sure. I traced the good one then placed the newly drilled one on top. Perfect!

20150512_214201 by tweedub, on Flickr

So now I needed to cut the bar down 40mm. 20mm each side

20150513_190428 by tweedub, on Flickr

20150513_190437 by tweedub, on Flickr

Now I needed to tap out the holes another 20mm each side. I didnt have a 14mm tap so used the bolts with a vice and a big adjustable spanner

20150513_192722 by tweedub, on Flickr

You can see the new cut threads

20150513_192711 by tweedub, on Flickr

And there we have it. A e46 rear strut brace in a e36 coupe :muttley:

20150513_193606 by tweedub, on Flickr

Oh I did paint it with smooth black hammerite too.

Tomorrow will be carbotech xp8 rear pads. And new drop link bracket on front coilover.

Stay tuned b!tches :peace:

So the droplink bracket is made of chocolate!
I think that it may have came loose and the fact I have a 28mm H&R anti roll bar, it may have weakened the bracket

20150515_201805 by tweedub, on Flickr

Got on the phone to driftworks explaining the issue and they sent a new bracket out straight away free of charge!

Next was to take bottom hub brakes off and fit drop link bracket. Was really tight so found a bar :)

Whoop all done. Well since this my mate turned down some 3mm thick stainless washes. 30mm with 10mm centre. Will take a pic tomorrow.

Carbotech xp8 rear pads

Easy to do. Undo rear caliper from carrier. Push piston in with thumbs and put in new pads.
