Runningman- good point re leather quality- just sold my 335d after 9 years ownership- leathers looked as good as new, vw golf leathers don’t age nearly as well

King monkey- taste didn’t come into it when I bought my alhambra- just gotta get 4 kids and gear from one place to another!

I didn’t upgrade due to funds but also because this was my first GTI and I thought I’d give the tartan a go. If I ever get another GTI I will be upgrading to Art Velours just for the faux leather (wipe clean) door cards and arm rest.

If they did a part leather option with tartan seats and faux leather bolsters then that would be perfect because I do actually like the tartan pattern.

Nothing wrong with the jacara. On my mark 2 GTI (1990 ) it was a material interior never had any issues the car was my 1st back in 2000 ( 10 years old at the time )and it was a mark 2, when it was 14 years old the material still looked good

I've never had any Volkswagen before and although my GTI PP was bought 2nd hand I was unsure about the tartan when deciding to buy it or not, but now if I was to buy new it's the one I would go for

I know it's not tartan, but the 'Rainbow' cloth on my 1990 Mk2 still looks brand new. That's 29 years old now.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Definitely a bit marmite!

I love it. And the matching key ring..

That said, I actually think both the other interior options are good as well and would have any of them, especially the Art Velours.

I really like the tartan but I think the quality and appearance was a bit better in the MK5 and 6. Not to mention the seats looked nicer / more bespoke in those cars with the integrated head rests.

I think the material on the bolsters, sides of the seats and door cards lets it all down a bit. It feels a bit nasty and from what I’ve seen it stains and wears badly.

The perfect combo was something I optioned in a MK7 back in 2013, half alcantara / leather (on bolsters, door cards) with the tartan centres. No longer an option now.
MK8 GTI Clubsport. Reflex silver, Estorils, and a few other bits.

That's a really good point JoeGTI and hog_hedge, the fabric bolsters and door cards can mark quite easily can't they if you're not careful. The standard seats in the Clubsport have leatherette there instead, but unfortunately lose the tartan.

You could always get custom made seats like these which look incredible! The best of both worlds, although, I'm sure I can spy a fabric armrest!

Have to agree with you Joe, VW haven't tried very hard with the seats in the Mk7 / Mk7.5. The Mk5 & Mk6 seats were nicer.

In fact i'd say I preferred the seats in my Octy vRS to those in my Golf. They were a bit more comfortable too.
