US taillights to European
« on: 14 May 2018, 07:42 »
I’ll be moving to the UK soon and I was curious if anyone is familiar with long coding? I have a US spec GTI and I’m sure I need to convert the taillights to pass inspection. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance

You may need new taillights or bulb holders. The US spec cars flash the red part of the light for the turn signal and may not have the bulb holders for orange bulbs.

Plus you have to turn off the indicators on the front (dunno if they are indicators or DLR in orange)

You probably also need to convert headlights.

Thanks for the advice guys. I already ordered the replacement taillight ends and a harness for the fog light and taillight. Now my question is are there any VW specialist shops around Cambridge that you guys know that do long coding even if it’s a tuning shop?

Cambridge?
I am there often for work but will move on at end of June.
If you fit before then I can help you with coding to the car.

As well as coding all the lights etc, you’ll also need to purchase one of these for all car parks and drive thru’s

Many years ago an old friend of mine brought in a Golf G60 (LHD only) from Germany.
He used to reverse through Drive Thru’s with a big cheesy grin on his face!

At a place I worked a few years ago, the car park had entry and exit barriers that you had to raise by holding your security/ ID card to a card reading machine.

A fellow employee had one of the first Smart for Two cars; you may remember they were all LHD initially, which meant they wouldn’t be able to reach to activate the car park barriers in the usual way. This fellow employee had a device similar to the Reacher Grabber that Jim posted the link to. At the time, I thought it was highly ingenious and amusing watching them enter and exit the car park!
