What colour is the car out of interest? Some colours are more of a b!tch to invisibly patch than others...

Never mind the full bumper, I'd be wanting it blended into the wings as well.
Why on earth would you need it blending into the front wings? It's the bumper that scratched not the wings.

It’s pretty standard practice for bodyshops to blend into adjoining panels - to ensure there’s no visible shade difference. Perhaps not for a bumper but certainly for metal panel repair.

My mum scratched the bumper of her white Kia and the body shop did a localised paint job and did a brilliant job, it's totally undetectable.  So on that basis I would go for the same, to keep as much original paint as possible, so long as they would do the whole bumper if the job was deemed unsatisfactory.  I certainly wouldn't get it blended onto perfectly good panels, even though a lot of body shops do that.  If the match wasn't good enough, they would have to do it again.

Bumpers are sometimes a slightly different shade to the adjoining metal panels on brand new cars from the factory - most noticeable on light metallic colours like silver, and more noticeable on some manufacturer’s cars than others.

Plastic can’t withstand the higher bake process that metal panels can. Also the painted plastic parts are often painted in a different part of the factory, so it’s possible they are painted using paint from a different batch, compared to the paint used to paint the body shell.

Painting only the bumper is usually just to keep costs down though, if OP isn't footing the bill because it's the dealership that's at fault then it should be the best job possible.  IMO (and IME), that would mean blending into the wings.

If they don’t get back to you in, say, a couple of days, phone and ask to speak to the dealer principal.

I had some issues when I bought my last car that the salesperson seemed incapable of resolving nearly two months later. A call to the dealership asking to speak to the dealer principal had matters resolved within a couple of days!

With some of the paint systems now, they will actually use a specialised camera to see the exact colour of the paint on there already. If it's only a year old, it won't have faded (like an old red Vauxhall would have) and they'll likely get a perfect match. This would hopefully negate the need for a respray being blended into the adjoining panels, which (if it were mine) I'd prefer not to happen. At the end of the day, the repair needs to be perfect though, or I'd be kicking up a stink too.

I've managed to get 2 dents on the rear quarters from rocks thrown up by petrol strimmers and won't have them sprayed. I'm going to get them taken out by PDR and then blob a bit of touch up in there, let it dry for a few days (so it's still a bit soft) and use cutting compound to get it back to level with the existing paintwork.

I clipped the nearside corner of the bumper on my previous car (Carbon Grey mk6 Golf GTD). I had a localised repair carried out by an independent body shop that specialises in minor repairs - they had contracts with many of the motor dealerships in my area - including dealerships for some high end motor manufacturers - to carry out pre-sale minor cosmetic repairs.

I’m pretty meticulous and OCD as far as my car is concerned, and the repair was top notch; I couldn’t detect any signs of a repair, the colour match was still spot on when I sold the car 3 years later (absolutely no signs of fading or deterioration of the repainted area).

So, it’s not always necessary to repaint the entire bumper; a localised repair can be a good solution, provided the body shop know what they’re doing.

I'd much prefer a local repair than the full bumper.

My dealer did something similar with my wife's GTI and painted the full bumper without our knowledge!!!
Anyway a year later and the lacquer started peeling so had to have it done again.

Be grateful they admitted to it as most will deny it

Can it not be machine polished out? You'd be amazed what can be sorted with that option!

I'd personally get a local repair with the option that if its not up to your satisfaction that it goes to a bodyshop of your choosing.

I agree with others and get the area manager involved in any emails.
