Those door stays with only one stop position at wide open. They're not that effective, even wide open. Quite the most useless I can remember on any car I've ever owned. Surprised they've survived through the life of the 7/7.5 this far. Rubbish design!

The radio volume knob
The rusty brakes / hubs
The nav - just fiddly to use and takes terrible routing decisions imo. I don’t rely on it.
Keyless cars - would be nice if the fob was different to non keyless.

I'm unable to scroll through phone contacts or my ipod on the MFD and have to do it on the ruddy touchscreen.

This might be common to all manufacturers, but I think CarPlay is still a bit half baked.

Other than for music/podcasts, the Bluetooth setup is superior and far better integrated with the car’s systems imo.

Dirt magnet boot doesn’t bother me.  Every Golf has been the same, it’s like an old friend. 

Things that have always annoyed me and still do:

Mode button on left of gearstick (positioned for LHD)

The massive turning circle of the R which makes it look like you can’t park and requires 3 manoeuvres to get into my normal position on the drive, where 1 used to suffice.

Rusty brake hubs.  Need I say more!

No mute button on steering wheel.

Things that used to annoy me but no longer do:

Crap initial throttle response - remedied with dtuk pedal box

Stop Start - disabled with OBDeleven.

Headlight washers - disabled with OBDeleven

There's probably a solution to the massive low pressure area that the Golf tows around behind it, and I suspect that it's the kind of diffuser that Aston Martin puts on their WEC GT cars:

A thing of beauty it is not.

The only hatchbacks which don't suffer too badly from rear crud syndrome are the Ford Focus and recent incarnations of the Honda Civic, both of which have a pronounced slope to the rear screen.

I wish there was a fix for this! I changed the voice control button to be a mute button on my wife's Altea but can't seem to do the same on my golf :-(

Me too.  Even after over 2 years, I still miss it, having had it on the mk6.
