Forming lance
« on: 08 July 2015, 18:12 »
I'm looking to buy my first forming lance for my k2 jet wash, but I'm struggling with all the different variations & prices ( do I buy the most expensive or will the £20 do the same) also could someone recommend a good ph neutral foam for it ,cheers.

All foam lances are not equal imo.  A decent snow foam lance will cost approx £40.  Something like this:

or this

I'm not sure what you'd get for £20 but the ones that come with jet washers are rubbish so a waste of money.

Decent snow foam, there's a few out there, among them:

Valet Pro Advanced PH neutral
Bilt Hamber Auto foam

Couple of other threads on lance/foam subject:

Btw, your car looks  in the reflections thread.

Thanks for such a detailed response( see what I did there) you do get what you pay for with most things , but I thought maybe forming lance's were all about the same apart from the price , also I'm loving my new master blaster side kick you mentioned in a post a few weeks ago.

I've got the autobrite one and it's brilliant, loads of adjustment and I can get an inch of snow foam topped up with water to do both cars adequately.

I see what you did there. Haha!  Very droll

Yes, you do get what you pay for with lances.  If you make sure you rinse through after each use with clean fresh water, to keep foam scum at bay, and give them an occasional service (which is an involved job - I have pictorial instructions for this procedure if you ever need them), then the lance should last years, so worth the initial outlay.

Glad you like the Sidekick.  It's a really useful piece of kit.  It was recommended to me by a couple of other forum members.  That's how it works on here

I use the lance from the first link that booth posted with a challenger extreme pressure washer and use valet pro advanced neutral snow foam and get a lovely thick foam.

I don't use snow foam all the time but when I do I use what came with my karcher jet wash. Does the job just fine. Why spend £40 when you can get 1 for £20. Your only getting the foam on then letting the foam do the work. But hey that's my opinion go with what suits your budget mine came with my set up

Hi all, just thought i'd share my thoughts on the Karcher 'FJ6 Foaming nozzle', which i assume is the £20 lance referred to in this thread. I know this is an old thread but i don't think my review necessarily deserves its own post; and this thread is the first result on a search for 'snow foam lance'.

I'm a complete detailing novice so these products are all new to me. This is the first snow foam lance I've used (at home) and i don't really have any point of comparison, other than the self use car wash places.

After some deliberation i decided to give this lance a go; there are LOADS of good and bad reviews online so the only real decider for me was the price - £18 delivered to my door. This is better than half the price of a pro lance such as the autobrite etc..

In a nutshell, you get what you pay for.

I used the FJ6 with quartz snow foam, a product highly praised by forum members who clearly know a thing or two about detailing.
Quartz recommend using 1 part solution to 10 parts water for a thick foam. I used 1 in 6 - the FJ6 has a 0.6 litre bottle.

My car was very grubby after nearly a month of motorway driving and bad weather. I didn't pre-rinse the car, thinking the foam would cling to the muck and penetrate better.

Below are some pictures of the results, which I think speak for themselves. (hope these images aren't too big??)
pre-wash//immediately after foaming//post wash.
I allowed the foam to sit for a good few minutes, but as you can see it wasnt even remotely thick and didnt hang around for long. This was using the lance on the MAX setting, which only worked if you held the trigger and then slowly turned the knob. If you look at the last image you will see the solution just pours out like a hose if you try to use it on the max setting.

I then jet washed, and allowed to dry to properly see the results...
