anyone fitted an anti lift kit to their car?
did you fit it yourself and if so did you get the geometry re set afterwards?

I have one I am just waiting to get my Coil overs to install it. Whiteline said to have the tracking done after the install so that is in my intentions.

yeah everyone seems to say get the alignment done at the same time.
my local 'proper' alignment centre charge about £65 for 4 wheel alignment. might as well let them fit the WALK kit if I'm paying that for alignment.
once its on the ramp it can't take much more than 30-60 minutes to fit? looks straight forward.

Again, SteveP fitted a WALK kit to his mk6 GTI. In fact he fitted most of the bolt on goodies such as ARBs, intakes, exhaust etc etc.
It has been a popular mod with mk5 owners for quite some time.

I've got the Whiteline Anti Lift kit fitted,
it is a must to get the geometry checked afterwards, as half the cars that come from the factory are wrong :sad:

also did you fit the anti bump steer kit while you were one?
it says on their website most cars have 2mm flex but the golf has 8mm due to poor positioning of the track rod end.

Never had any issues with bump steer, 1st time i have heard of these cars having a problem ?
Think i'll give that a miss :wink:

Spoke to my local supplier and they said bump steer kit is only required if you have lowered your car alot.
They want £60 to fit and £100 for 4 wheel alignment. Bit of a p!sstake. Looks like I will be doing a DIY job then get the alignment done.
Just hope I don't had to press the old bush off the control arm as I don't have a press

i was just looking at those threads earlier tonight as it happens
for me the super pro one is a bit of a non starter as i don't have a press etc to fit the new bushes to the control arm
do you know if the OE bush slides off the hex rod on the control arm or do you need a press to remove it?

No press required for the WALK, you unbolt the whole console and pull that including the bush off the hex rod.

thank god for that! so its just a case of undoing the 3 bots and sliding it off?
the whittling instructions say to remove the control arm which seems like over kill to me? it looks to me there is enough room to slide the old unit off with the arm in place.
I'm hoping with it being a new car it should still be fairly greased up and just slide off!
i want to fit it myself as i don't fancy paying £60 then anther £100 on top for alignment!
will get on ordered i think!
how come you couldn't get it to fit your mk6? I've read a few other places where people have them on the mk6 and whiteline are certain it fits. must be cos of your ACC maybe?

Hope you can find a good wheel alignment place as after four different places and six attempts mine is still not right. :rolleyes:
This was with two of the garages using the latest Corghi Blacktech system.

my local alignment place use a Hunter's DSP600 system which is meant to be top drawer. i still think £100 for wheel alignment is a scandal though!

Interesting stuff, but can I check that I understand this - the kit actually reduces the anti-dive giving more pitch on the brakes, but with the up-side that the effective spring rate is softer under the braking load. Is that right? Does the benefit really out-weigh the increase in pitch? (and if this is such a good idea, why not remove the anti-roll bars too?)

the kit reduces the amount of movement on the lower wishbone and reduces the amount the front end lifts (which reduces weight over the front and causes wheel spin etc) under hard acceleration.
so with this kit and its stronger mount the geometry is more accurate under load and the castor angle changed slightly to give better turn in

...but changing the geometry doesn't change the weight transfer from the front wheels - it just changes the fraction of the weight transferred through the springs rather than the swing-arm.

ordered my WALK tonight for awesome for £168 all in. hopefully get it on the car soon.
could have got one for £155 but is a 6 week wait but i think awesome have them on the shelf...
also got my torque arm mount to fit but i missed the postman today :angry:
either a sat nav or a milltek cat back for christmas then thats the mods done for a while. :rolleyes:

fitted the WALK today. ordered thru JKM at awesome have a 6 week wait -- as do every other supplier i tried
went on ok - OEM ones were a bit brutal to get off and like most jobs a proper lift would have made the job 2 or 3 times quicker and easier
going in to revolution tomorrow for 4 wheel alignment but first test drive feels more direct steering and certainly more traction in a straight line or while turning
pretty sure the alignment needs adjusting so will get a better idea tomorrow

had the wheel alignment set yesterday
it wasn't too far out but was worth checking got it set to Hunters machine tolerance which is closer to ideal.
front castor at 8 degrees which is spot on and camber was very good. toe was slightly out of spec so had that set right
geometry is almost perfect comparing left and right so I'm pleased but it wasn't cheap!
had the car on 2 proper drives on the twistys now and i can confirm the WALK increases steering feel and weight nicely, the car is more stable on the gas and there is more traction out of corners. the traction control is barely activated now and can run without it without spinning its power away no problem. i ran it with the traction control off today and grip was very good even on damp leafy roads.
also fully turned off the ASR and ESP and had a little play around and the tail is quite playful on the damp with lift off oversteer. a nice touch for the 2012MY. makes you realise how good the ESP is though. on everyday driving it must come on a lot but is very subtle IMO and a great safety feature. no need to turn it off on the road TBH
the WALK by the time you have alignment done isnt cheap but it isn't expensive IMO and it does make a difference. well worth a go
i think a 24mm rear way bar would be a nice addition then thats me done with the mods...

for my next mods i have been looking into whittline adjustable sway bars and the bump steer kit and decided to make some more purchases
went for the whittline bump steer kit to go with the WALK i fitted earlier.
VW engineered 8mm bump steer into the GTI on purpose to make the audi TT feel better and justify the extra ££££'s
the bump steer kit reduces the amount of flex/movement in the steering when heavily compressed (cornering hard) reducing understeer and steering vagueness.
I'm hoping this mod will reduce understeer when pushing on and improve steering feel a bit.
I'm annoyed as i spoke to a few places when i ordered the WALK as i wanted to do the bump steer at the same time and was told it wasn't necessary unless the car is lowered but having spoken to a very reputable suspension specialist he said the bump steer kit is a must have on the mk5/mk6 GTI.
i just paid £72 for hunter 4 wheel alignment too - the reason i wanted to do both at the same time but was talked out of it :angry:
got it at a good price anyway but will need the tracking done again :rolleyes:
