Misfire/erratic idle with video, update please read
« on: 19 January 2013, 19:23 »
Hi all just gone to start my car and it has an erratic idle / misfire. Ive taken it for a quick spin and on very light throttle the car is bucking yet the throttle is kept in the same position. How ever under hard acceleration it seems to drive fairly smooth. Considering this has been r-tech'd Nd running 232bhp +258lbs ft+ it seems fairly flat to normal.

I've. Cleaned out the maf, checked coil packs are fully pressed down/ connected anything else I should check?

Coil packs were replaced under warranty within a year ago because of the recall.

I have fault codes 17511 & 16514 lambda related.

Here's a video

Please help

If those faults are lambda related it could be throwing your fuelling about all over the place. Can you get some lambda logs?

Had the lambda codes for a few weeks now which I've been meaning to get round to sorting, dunno whether these new symptoms are related or not.

The roads round here are deadly ATM and traction control is kicking In every few seconds literally, so I've unplugged both plugs on the throttle body as I've had a similar problem before. Plugged them back in and the erratic idle has pretty much gone away but it's incredibly flat to drive :undecided:?

Unable to take any logs unfortunately

Right Ive just unplugged the maf and it seems to have a nice steady idle and no boggyness to it. Is it safe to go for a quick blast with maf unplugged to see if it has gotten rid of misfire?

Also just thinking out loud, IF the maf is fubaredd could that be throwing the fueling out, bringing up error codes 17511 & 16514 lambda related or the other way round?

thanks in advance

Does a knackered maf throw up codes?

Bad maf doesn't always throw up a code, apparently it's not wise to drive with it unplugged but if it was mine I would  :lipsrsealed:

If it could be that buggared try givin it a clean with maf cleaner (or carb cleaner but a tiny ammount!!!)

2000 GTI 1.8t ARZ, S2000 filter, DSG intake, Forge 007 dv, Catch can, R-tech custom remap, 3" Supersize Silicone TIP, Powerflex dog bone, 'The Beast' FMIC, Ultimate delete, LCR fuel pump, 3" Turbo back, K03 hybrid, Ported Manifold, S3 injectors, 80mm maf = 280bhp 270lbft

ran mine with it unplugged for a long time, I know its not advisable, but only because it runs on default values.
