update on my AGU
« on: 11 September 2009, 13:04 »
just changed MAf and put standard filter back  .. my induction filter box is on the classifieds  it sounds so quiet no more grunt

car is running a1 again.. took it for a quick drive.. felt very strong on the pull just like was when i got it.. im well happy and mpg jumped up to 32mpg.. bit less then what i was usually getting before all this but better then 16mpg! i think it will rise slowly to normal once the airbox and MAF have settled in for a few more years

was going to do DSG intake but after a good think i chose not to as i was not 100% it was the MAf so incase something else was wrong i didnt want to dish out on goodies yet  but will invest in that defo before christmas along with my exhaust system and remap

i was also thinking of changing the fuel filter .. is it an expensive job?

MAF seems to be the cause of so many problems, but its such an expense to not be 100% sure of. There's never a fault code related to it, you're left guessing from symptoms like poor idle / flat-spots etc etc etc.

Is there no way to remove it, bung up the hole and trick the ECU?

lol  NO! The ECU needs it to measure the amount of air entering the engine to control the air/fuel ratio

no i mean is it expensive to get fitted at local garage? or is a DIY.. im pretty handy so can do it my self if rich has a how to

yh the MAF is a bigtym bastard

should my mpg go up straight away as normal or would it take a few days for it to settle in as i have just replaced it back to standard airbox too?

went for little drive again n i drove like a granny first 10 mins (temp was up to 90 as nomral)and it went up to like 29 mpg.. then i decided boot it see what i will get.. and it droped to like 18mpg! this aint nomral.. as before all this problem i use get average 37 mpg driving grannyish and around 26 mpg booting it! so any ideas?? :sad

 it will take a few miles to settle down and start running efficiently again nav it will have to re-adapt itself like your t/b does after a clean  should be okay then could always hook it up on vag-com after a run see if any codes show
