Title: Lowering springs
Post by: gixerste on 24 March 2020, 08:03
I'm thinking about lowering my car at some point with either VWR Raceline or Eibach springs , I've fitted Eibach to other cars before so know they are a good quality spring that maintains comfort as well as improving handling but don't know anything about VWR sprinngs. Anybody on here fitted either of these make of springs to their Mk7 ?? Feed back about handling and comfort would be appreciated

Be very cautious when both buying and reading reviews of VWR springs. They went through a period when they were (apparently) crap, but I think they've got a new revision out now that is deemed ok. I'd go Eibach myself,. based on reviews. But as you can see, I'm confused, and it's a real minefield out there, particularly with VWR

Cheers for that as I've used eibach before I think I will just stick with what I know

I have always had Eibach on my cars and my GTI is no different. I have had Eibach Pro springs on my GTI for over 25,000 miles and I have had no issues with comfort, noises or clearance. They are a great all rounder because they have enough drop to look good but not enough to compromise comfort or practicality.

Had VWR springs on mine for over 2 years and they've been absolutely fine. Car rides well, bit firmer but I like that. Nice drop in height too, not too low and no scraping on arches or speed bumps.

I'm sure I read h&r make them for VWR. I'd recommend them.

I had Eibach on mine, absolutely perfect in terms of drop and comfort, I took them off as I was getting an awful creaking noise with them, I believe there was a recall on them shortly after.

Here's a before and after video of mine https://youtu.be/FjMOFJO8w_E

dont want to hijack the post...but...if the car is fitted with DCC can they be lowered, does it mess with the handling, etc?  thanks.

I have read that with the Eibachs, each step is basically a bit harder, so Comfort is like normal, Normal is like Sport, Sport is a bit harder.

It's not ideal to run them with DCC, but I have DCC and I'm tempted to give them a god at some point

I had Eibach and DCC and to be honest I thought it improved each setting by making the difference between comfort, normal and sport much more noticeable.

I did have a shock prematurely fail on me which I believe was down to the lowering springs, I'm now back standard.

Apparently you can still lower a bit with DCC without it affecting reliability to any major extent.

I'd stick with Eibachs 100%, which ones (pro kit or sportlines) are up to you. Sportlines lower a bit more on the front but have a little less comfort.

I've got sportlines and don't mind them but some might find them a little too hard - it's all subjective though. If you've got DCC, I'd stick to the pro kit.

It was the pro kit that I used. It may have just been a coincidence but as with any stock damper they're not designed for aftermarket lowering springs.

If it wasn't for the annoying creak and the leaking damper I would've still had them on the car because they were exactly what I was after whilst still keeping OEM levels of comfort.

Just lowered my TCR with Eibach Pro Kit springs, and looks a lot better now and no apparent difference in ride. Very pleased with them so far.

Eibach here too, put off by a handful of VWR reviews. If you shop around you can pick up Eibach Pro for £120 or so

How far did it lower?  Be good to see some pictures of it if you have any?

Not sure I could get away with lowering mine as have to go up over the path before down on to my drive so as I am half way over the path I already get pretty low to the pavement...

Eibach Pro on my 2013, this photo was taken recently so they've been on for more than a year and definitely settled

Another +1 for the Eibach pro kit.  A noticeable drop without being too much.  Pretty close to standard ride comfort too.
