Subwoofer help
« on: 08 June 2015, 16:13 »
I have had a subwoofer and amp installed in my bmw e46 for about half a year... My amp decided to die on me a week ago. I have brought a replacement EDGE amp....

But at 0 to very low volume i am getting a crackling and popping sound from the subwoofer. Mainly happens when i just start the car. Then it stops after like 30 seconds. It is very worrying and annoying..

My old amp did not do this. I have moved the amplifier position thinking it may be some interferance but still it is happening.  Anybody has any ideas as to what it is please???

Thanks in advance for the help.

Has the sub been wired up correctly? Unless the headunit is on you shouldn't hear anything from the sub on start up.

Yes the sub is wired correctly i have just swapped out the old amp with the new one... Its very odd.. And yes the crackle and ppp from the subwoofer is only when the headunit is on.. If i put it at 0 volume.. U can hear a scratching/crackling/poping sound from the subwoofer..

Also i cranked up the volume earlier and my amplifier went into protective mode :undecided:

When i started the car back up it all worked fine but i havent cranked up the volume since. I have just gone and disconnected it all as i dont think something is right with the wiring i dont want to fuse or blow anything

Also i have tried two different subwoofers both are doing the same thing.

Any ideas on where i should start to check?

I would ensure the wiring is properly crimped at the sub, amp and headunit. Is the amp earthed to a clean point?
