18" Prets on a GTI?

Has anyone seen the 18" version of the Pretoria on a GTI or GTD? Considering a purchase. Not sure if they will look a little small as obviously most Prets are 19" on the R. They are the same size and offset and size as my Parkers so would be straight swap and pop on some PS4 tyres. Guessing they might be a bit lighter than the Parkers?

Would you go for silver or black? I'm assuming you've seen them on ebay, seem like a pretty good deal plus the saving in 18 vs 19" tyres. Sounds a good idea to me :smiley:

To me the 18" Prets looked a bit small although it could be that I'm so used to 19" Pretorias that my mind triggers an alarm when I see them at a smaller size  :tongue:

Regarding weight I wouldn't count on them being considerably lower, they seem to weigh around 25-26.5lbs according to different sources. How heavy are the Parkers?

I was briefly considering a set to run as winter wheels, but in the end I decided to stick with my black Neptune's in the same size and offset.

Weight is similar to the standard 18 inch alloys AFAIK as they’re cast. Don't think size-wise they'll look too bad if your existing wheels are 18 inch, but they're obviously not going to fill the arches as well as the 19 inch version.

Colour-wise i'd go for black, as the silver isn't the same shade as the 19 version. I think the 18 is a brighter shade of silver than the 19 inch version.

I actually considered 18` Prets in silver but as you say it`s not exactly the same colour as the 19` Prets which put me off.

Black wheels usually look terrible, depends on the car colour  :smiley:

Am I correct in thinking that the 18" prets are cast rather than forged (like the 19" ones) and may in fact be heavier?

19" Prets are not forged but flow-formed and they weigh 21lbs. 18" Prets are cast and betweenn 25-26.5lbs (different sources). AFAIK the only forged OEM VW wheel is the stock Clubsport Belvedere wheel weighing 16.7lbs

The 18" Prets are heavy and sit too far into the arches.

Go for something like a Borbet FF1 in 18" which is strong, light, a similar style to Pretoria and funnily enough comes out of the same factory as most OEM VW wheels.
The FF1 comes in 8" width which will sit the tyre more squarely and also a 45mm offset which will sit the wheel in the arch more squarely.
