Fuel Contaminated Oil.
« on: 11 March 2017, 16:39 »
Hi,

First post on here, after some advice if possible - hope you don't mind!

Two weeks ago I replaced a CCZB engine on a friend’s MK6 GTi due to the chain tensioner failing.

The replacement engine ran well from the first startup, no engine trouble codes or irregular running – until yesterday, when the engine and EPC lights illuminated (The new engine has covered 450 miles so far).

The first thing I checked was the oil – which had a very strong smell of petrol. The level was also over the maximum.
I drained out the oil and found it to be very thin – as well as being a litre overfilled (which I’m guessing is fuel)

It seems there is fuel getting into the engine somehow, I’m guessing this is either via the injectors, or high-pressure fuel pump.

The engine runs normally at the moment, nice and smooth - you wouldn't think anything was wrong!
The exhaust gasses smell as they should when warm – doesn’t smell like its running rich, which leads me to think it’s the high pressure pump that’s leaking, does this sound plausible?
I did remove the HPFP from the old engine to fit on the replacement engine - is it possible I could have damaged it in the process?

I have listed the fault codes below – keen to hear if anyone has experienced the same.
The car isn’t being driven for the time being, whilst we figure out what’s wrong – my instinct is to replace the high-pressure fuel pump, but don’t want to spend on that if it may be something else causing the issue.

After giving this some more thought, due to the car appearing to run fine, with no fuel smoke - I'm more convinced this will be the HPFP.

Is this a dealer only part? I have taken around the usual places (ECP.etc) but cant seem to find anywhere aside from Rexbo (€650), or anywhere that seems to refurbish them.

I think I may try a test later, but removing the pump but leaving it attached to the fuel input - to see if any fuel leaks through on ignition position II whilst its being primed.
