fault code 00589???

on my way home today guys and the airbag light came on i have not changed anything lately or done anything that i could think would cause the car to do this. I plugged it into my fault code reader when i got in and its come up with 00589 i tried erasing it but the light hasnt gone can anyone please tell me what the code stands for or if anyone knows what the problem is?? cheers.

589 is passenger side airbag, usually it's just a case of the plug contacts under the seat need cleaning up

Observe correct battery dis-connect sequence etc, if you are unplugging/plugging it back in.  Don't want it going DOOF in your ear-hole!

Right so i need to unplug the battery then unplug the seat (is it just the big orange one or is there more then that?) then plug the battery back in?

Been to a specialist today and he thinks its my passenger airbag that needs replacing which is gonna cost near on £1000 does this sound right or not do they often just need replacing for no reason?

Urm sounds like he's taking the wee wee

I have this fault code; quick jiggle of the wire under the seat and reset it via VAGCOM and it stays off for ages

But trying cleaning the plug as what has been suggested  :smiley:

Worse case is the loom under the seat needs replacing - about £25 from the dealers
