Neil C, that's looking really clean now. Number plate looks great and really improves the look. I think we're lucky in the UK because our number plate font actually looks great. Alternative fonts generally look crap and they're illegal anyway so what's the point?
A couple of weeks ago I got my black badges and red inlay through. After fighting with the rear badge for a while I managed to get it off in one piece. Fitted the red inlay. But decided I didn't like the black badge on Tornado Red. Silver looks better. But I left the red inlay because the faded black was making it look a bit crap. Not sure if I like it better than black. In future I might try to restore the black plastic instead or use a black inlay.
Last weekend I finished repair stone chips on the bonnet. I'd already spent a couple of weekends applying the paint and clear coat and sanding them down and polishing. Now I've polished the whole car by hand. It's not as good as machine polish, of course, but I don't have a machine. So full polish and wax. Took a whole day and I ached by the end. I have yet to take any nice pictures of the car, though...
Today I fitted cruise control. I really wanted cruise control as I liked it on my Civic, but couldn't find a GTI with it. Fortunately you can retrofit it. On the earlier Mk6s like mine (2010) it's the same as on the later Mk5s and you can follow this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEMRIPjeJAs It took me about 1.5 hours with 1 hour of that just being removing the airbag. That was a massive pain. But after that very straightforward and a really nice upgrade that cost all of £40 for the stalk (I already have an OBD11 for coding).
