Wet rear foot well drivers side
« on: 24 July 2016, 16:39 »
Just wondering if anyone has experienced this ?
The carpet is soaking with no obvious sign of where it's coming in

Perhaps either the door or window had been left slightly open - I'd dry it off then jet wash to see if it gets wet again.

A chap I know at work has a 64 plate 4 door golf SE and was recently asking me if mine had any problems regarding water ingress as you described.I hadn't but when I next saw him he said the car had been in under warranty and the water was coming in through rear door speaker? He reckoned the dealer said this was quite common and they sorted for him under warranty.
It seems a bit far fetched but I've no reason to doubt him.

Do you use a jet wash ?

Another possibility is the Aircon condensation drain hose has become disconnected and the water has seeped back to the rear footwell. Although you would probably notice wet in front carpet.

It was a problem with some early Mk7s which left the factory badly fitted.

Thanks for replies
No jet wash used - window and roof not left open , but carpet is soaking wet and its spread under seat towards drivers footwell
It seemed to get worse today after heavy rain while car was parked up
I'll take it to dealer as its under warranty
Damp musty smell from it - just started this week

I had a leak but the water was going into the boot.
It was coming in through the fuel flap filler and getting between the 2 skinned panel and making its way to the boot.
Its possible the route to the boot is blocked and the water is making its way the other way to the rear footwell.

How does the seal look at the bottom? Whenever I wash mine or if it's been raining hard, my rear door seal usually is full of water which could get inside with a bit more wear I think. My mate has a 3 door R and he always gets a buildup of water when he washes his and it pisses out when he opens the door! Hope you get it sorted chap

I get a similar build up but only ever on the passenger side......... once the heats on or the doors open it soon clears and haven't noticed any water inside yet?

Sunroof rear drainage hose has come off or blocked is my guess.
