Title: Interior fabric colour restoration
Post by: MrJollygood on 14 November 2019, 08:58
Hello,

I'm looking for some tips for bringing the colour back to the fabric on the door armrests in my Mk7 Gti - as you can see in the picture (this makes it look worse than it is) the fabric has faded with wear at the ends of the armrests - are there any products that can help revive the dark colour of the fabric?

Thanks!

Are you sure it's faded? I'd have thought more likely dust trapped in the material. Perhaps just a slightly damp mf to clean it?

That was my first thought when I saw the OP’s picture. Such localised fading near the base of the door pull next to the window switches is unlikely IMO.

If it’s not dust, the it could possibly be the result of the driver’s hand regularly making contact with that part of the armrest; natural oils being secreted from the skin or some form of hand cream / moisturiser being rubbed onto the fabric over time on that part of armrest maybe?

@MrJollygood; If a damp microfibre doesn’t work, maybe try a steam cleaner if you have one or a proprietary car upholstery cleaner.

Get some diluted APC misted onto a microfibre and get it a gentle rub. Would be surprised if it doesn't make a massive difference.

As an alternative to APC, a solution of washing liquid (the stuff that goes in the washing machine) will do the job. Just don't get it too wet.

Depends if you are called MJ and how much you like Bubbles...

Some interior shampoo and a stiff brush removed all the dirt and restored it back to the orginal colour!
