I NEED HELP!!
« on: 13 May 2003, 23:28 »
:-[

I have a white GTI mk II, 16v and I'm in desperate need of someone's help.

My Golf has rust along the bottom side panels and over the boot to the extent that there is a corrosion hole formed underneith the licence plate. I am so depressed as I love my Golf but cannot afford an expensive paint job and am dying to be proud of driving her around again. I am hoping that someone out there knows of a cheap but sturdy body kit that will hopefully cover the nasty orange smears over the white body work and once again make my GTI be the envy of people!!!

PLEASE HELP ME!!!  ???

ahhhhh.....

You cant just cover the rust with a bodykit!!!!

well you can but to be honest a properly fitted bodykit(that doesnt look tatty!) is likeley to cost you nearly as much as a "rear spray"...

You may as well replace the boot, you can pick a good one up from a vw scrappie dirt cheap.
It also would be worth you while to treat the rust properly and go for a paint job. As '87_project' said, for the price of a body kit and getting it fitted you may just as well getting the car respayed. If the rest of the body work is good you won't end up spending that much money on a simple blow over.

If you put a bodykit straight over the rusty bits your asking for trouble, the rust is there because previous damage hasn't been repaired and the bodykit will act like a water trap and the rust will get so bad the kit will probably fall off anyway. I know its expensive and a pain in the bottom but get it repaired properly and the car will be better for it or maybe have a go yourself, I'd leave the painting for the experts as its a bit of an art.
