Newbie - Just got MK3 Golf GTI Today
« on: 09 April 2005, 18:01 »
Get in, I am now a Golf GTI owner, rock on!

Gotta keep it as it is, cos skint now and it needs a few things doing to it for its next MOT.

Needs new drivers side headlight.
Drivers door lock doesn't lock the car, need to use passenger side (getting Thatcham Remote Alarm anyway so no problem).
Has no locking wheel nut key (can't find it anyway) but has new rubber all round anyway.

So, i'll be tapping my uncle up to give it a service then i'll be well happy.

Thanks guys!

So, anything I should really know about a GTI 8v? Things to look for etc.

I've already figured that the ABS is not working, but hey.....Its gonna be a lot more reliable than the Renault Megane Coupe i've just got rid of.

Things I need:
Drivers headlight.
Drivers door lock fixing (getting Thatcham remote alarm which my insurance require me to have will cure this).

Things to investigate:
Creaking/Knocking from the exhaust backbox area.
Pinking type of noise when accelerating under load.

You need to get the ABS sorted as well, as thats an MOT Failure

I have just checked, I have got a spare drivers side Headlight if you want it, its a standard twin headlight one, I am open to offers.

GGGrrr, any ideas on what to check first?
I've had a look and the light doesn't actually come on, so bulb might have been taken out?!
