Title: Golf 1.9GTI Stereo Shorting Out

My daughter has the above car.  When putting even the radio on, after even only a minute or two on low volume, it makes like a ‘bang’ sound on the left hand side of the car under the dash, then the radio immediately cuts out.
Please can someone tell me if they’ve had this problem and if so, can it be fixed or do I really have to purchase a new stereo - it looks immaculate.

More likely a wiring issue. Take it to an auto electrician ahead of just replacing the unit.
