Title: HIC - If you want a HIC insurance quote, please read....
Post by: martinb on 21 December 2006, 16:09
Just a continuation of this thread really: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=13233.0 now we have a specific insurance section allowing members to get quotes or advice straight from HIC!

The easiest and quickest way to get a quote is to call HIC on our direct line for Golfgti.co.uk members only: 0844 888 7252 or send us an email to golfgti@hertsinsurance.com (make sure you include your name and contact number) and we will give you a bell (this may take longer during busy periods).

If you have any general insurance queries feel free to post em up in the insurance section and we will be happy to try and help!

Cheers

After years of being insured with Adrian Flux I have just started my first policy with HIC.  Most importanly, the HIC quote was cheaper and had better terms and, overall, the quote experience was much less painful - nice to deal with someone (Martin) who isn't a generic 'computer says no' voice on the end of the phone.

Ditto!! i've just done exactly the same too, cheaper better terms and a pleasure to deal with.

Will have to try them for the missus's mk4 tdi in november!

Hello mate, Yeah Adrian Flux are our sister company. HIC and Adrian flux are run as 2 seperate companies but basically the same bloke owns both!

As such it can be difficult for me to get deals for people who are due for renewal with Adrian Flux as we try to avoid competing with each others renewals.

Glad mine was the best tho, let me know when you wanna sort it!!

should not be too bad as we rate on the group of the donor engine and there is only a couple of groups difference between the 1.8 and 2.0, see here for a rough guide to the groups: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=51792.0

With Adrian flux my premium @ 24 year old + 3 years NCB on the 1.8 8v Gti was roughly £700 tpft

Renewed with MartinB/HIC and it dropped to £405 tpft @ 25 year old + 4 year NCB....

This year... renewal quote from HIC - 26 years old, 5 years NCB - £280!!! HIC does it again

Cheers Martin/HIC

The fact we are sister companies means nothing more than that we are two seperate companies owned by the same person and we try not to compete with each others existing customers due for renewal. We both have different schemes available so sometimes we are better sometimes they are, depends on the scheme. TBH you could probably ring 20 different brokers and get 20 different quotes which were all underwritten by the same company as our underwriters give schemes/rates based on our target customers, how profitable our account is, how much business we place with them, number of claims etc etc.

You need to make 10 posts before you can use PM's (posts in nonsense dont count!). Get to 10 then pm me your number or ring me on the number in my signature.

hmm, just had a quick look at the quote page and read the terms, sadly i have a ccj after a couple of debts went south. shame as i have never missed an insurance payment :(

not quite sure why that is a term and condition, have never seen it on any other insurance comapnies site. really want away from my current insurer quinn direct as im not hearing good things about them. they even asked for an engineers report if i was gonna declare the lowered springs on my car which is outrageous!!

shame as i just did a quote anyway for me and it came back at £305.25 including payment over 9 months without any golfgti.co.uk discounts etc :(

**UPDATE**

furthermore, ive had a courtesy call from a lovely ladie at HIC who said that even with my CCJ i would still be able to use the quote. she said that chaucer who are the underwriters will insure people with CCJ`s but only if i was to pay the balance off in full. that also about works out about £40 cheaper than paying it over 6 months so it should be down to around £270 without even mentioning this forum! perhaps not all insurance comapnies are b******s after all! so top marks to HIC! will certainly be moving to them in spetember/october when my insurance is up for renewal

very impressed :)

looks like it could be a good deal this HIC company - a few of my friends are members and they recommended me to this thread here. ive always had a problem with insurance companies as i have a gti with a stainless steel exhaust - as its on my car i feel obliged to declare it to the insurance companies (is this the norm?) as in only 23 - this has caused 80% of companies to quote silly amounts or not at all... not too impressed. (especially as i have 4 years no claims).

what does everyone else do in this situation?
Title: Re: If you want a HIC insurance Quote, please read....
Post by: martinb on 17 July 2007, 15:40
you are doing the right thing, always declare any modifications to the best of your knowledge.

With us, a stainless exhaust is unlikely to even make any difference to the premium.

Just a continuation of this thread really: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=13233.0 now we have a specific insurance section allowing members to get quotes or advice straight from HIC!

The easiest and quickest way to get a quote is to run through a quote on our website here:  https://www.hertsinsurance.com/gtiredirect.html  Once you have done this, dont worry if the price it gives you is not competitive as there are other schemes and discounts i can offer that are not available online and make sure you store the quote by selecting come back later so then either PM me your name and number and i will call you or call the Golfgti.co.uk members direct line 08451 256 256. This will save time as i will already have all your details so can just double check them all and do you a deal!

If you have any general insurance queries feel free to post em up in the insurance section and i will be happy to try and help!

Alternitively you can call HIC on a direct line for Golfgti.co.uk members only: 08451 256 256

If you dont wanna do either of the above you can enter your details here and someone will call you:

https://www.hertsinsurance.com/gti/callme.htm

Cheers

Martin

Hi,

I just rang them and I got a cheaper price with Admiral! £580 a year third party, fire and theft, with windscreen cover and personal injury. But since I could only afford to pay monthly it was around £790...But HIC wanted best price £750 upfront!

So where do I stand now then? I can still cancel with Admiral but I doubt HIC can do me a better price monthly...

Post by: martinb on 19 September 2007, 11:48
its a little hard to comment without knowing your details but if you want to email me your name/postcode & number or pm (when you get to 10 posts obviously) then i will happily take a look for you.

Did you ring us 1st or admiral? We will always try to match or beat your best rate but if you called us 1st then we can only quote whats on the screen.

We cant win em all though unfortunately

Ok i used the pc get a quote route and filled in everything. first quote i got was for £550 something, then seen that was out right payment which ive no chance of doing. So i clicked deposit and 9 months DD and it went up too £660. Well ive had AA quote so far for 58.90 deposit and then £54.74 for 11months which ok is still alot but its so much easy for me to pay like that.  I can do like a 60 or 70 £ deposit but thats it really, ive even have the Voluntary excess on £500 for yours and them.  When i tried making ajustments to it on your site it then came up with we cant quote you please......so on.  I get this golf next week and i need to be covered but im starting to go mad now with this insurance quoting, is there anything else that can be done with your insurance group??
Title: Re: If you want a HIC insurance Quote, please read....
Post by: martinb on 26 September 2007, 10:33
as i said mate, there is a much better chance of getting you a better deal if you contact the office, our website needs updating - at the moment our website will only compare approx 20-30 schemes but in the office we can look at almost 200! Either give us a bell on the number in my sig or pm me your number and i will call you.

The only thing that may prove difficult is getting the deposit low enough as our underwriters usually want a deposit of around 20% of the premium so we would need to beat their rate by a fair bit but no harm in trying.

Just a slight update too this. Our website is currently not doing online quotes as it was not compatible with all our schemes. When you now click get a quote on our website, you will still be asked to enter all your information, we can then print it all off in the office, run it through and then get back to you with a quote. Due to the huge amount of these we get though this is not instant so if you require a quote urgently then either call the office on 08451 290290 (local rate) or pm myself on here with your number so we can call you back.

I will update this again once our new improved online quote system is up and running!

Wish I'd seen this thread earlier....only a matter of hours ago I was on the phone to HIC to sort out a new policy starting tomorrow.  I can't remember who I spoke to but it was a very pleasant girl who didn't think she'd be able to get near my cheapest quote.....but did   They beat my renewal from Greenlight by £100 (been with them for a couple of years now, normally quite competitive) and matched my cheapest quote which was from Admiral by dropping the initial quote down by £200.

If I'd have seen this thread earlier I might have phoned the golfgti.co.uk direct line but never mind, it's all sorted as from noon tomorrow

Dont recommend HIC, just cos my current insurance is through adrian flux i cant even get a quote. This is pointless as the whole point in ringing round different companies is to get the best quote and best cover.

Looks like neither flux or HIC will get my money this year.

very dissappointed as 1 person on the first page changed from Flux to HIC and now they wont even do it.

FWIW, I thought I'd try these guys today, and sadly they could get close, but not close enough.

Very pleasant to talk to but "money talks"!!

Anyhoo, as a comparison -

2 drivers (both aged 35, Full UK drivers for 18 years)
Healthcare Assistant (private) & Lecturer
Full protected NCB & 1 sp30 (£60+3pts)

Living in the HR6 area - car kept on driveway + used for S,D & Commuting

2005 Golf GTI totally standard.

£368 + £350 xs

The cheapest I've got so far was £345 with £200 xs.

My Renewal is £333 with Axa, but thats loads more than last year.
Rang the golfgti helpline, spoke with Dean who asked if I had tried Adrian Flux, told him yes I have they wanted £500+ He said well we are a sister company and our quotes will be the same so no point in doing a quote!

This is not the case, just because you have had a quote from Adrian Flux does not mean we cannot quote you or that the quote will be the same. I will make sure Dean knows this and et me know if you still want a quote.

Does the HIC website not work? I entered all my details and it says

"Connect failed: %s No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. "

no - sorry that was an old link, I have edited it out of the first post now. Online quotes are currently unavailable but our IT dept are working on it so a full online quote and buy system should be back soon.

In the meantime either call us on the golfgti.co.uk hotline (see my sig), email us at golfgti.co.uk or drop me a pm and I will get someone to call you.

Cheers

1700 for a 22yr old, 4 years NCB on a mk2 golf gti 16v.. then very swiftly being transferred to this call connect company or something? Who were absolutely USELESS. As were the companies they transferred me to!

It's depressing that a year and a half ago, I got the same quote but as a younger age, etc. for 650ish..

well after ringing a couple of insurance companies for a "classic" policy with a limited mileage.
one would not touch the car as it's a 1990 and apparently not old enough to qualify.
one would not quote as my golf is modified.
so i decided to give these HIC people a ring as there is some good feedback on here.
spoke to a chap called andrew.
he went through all my modifications and came back with a quote of £208.00 fully comp,
as i only paid previously £170.00 for my rs turbo with agreed value i decided to try and get it lower.
still ended up going back to  HIC and removed the lost key which is automatically added and eventually got it down to £183.00 plus the agreed value charge.
took this out as i was fed up with ringing round.
as i work for a major insurance company and get really good staff discounts on all my other insurance product's we unfortunately don't do "classic"policies.

well begining to regret this hic policy already.
after waiting a few days for all my documents i've now realised they had mailed them to me instead.
which has now eaten away into the time frame they have given for me to return all the required information.
i've had no internet for a couple of days and also have no printer.
it appears that after spending half an hour on the phone going through all my modifications and then accepting the quote i also now have to fill a form in confirming all the mods that had been done by a previous owner.
and they also are asking for information off the donor car which i do not have.
and also now want the engine number (hope i can find it).

hi martin,
that part is sorted now.
but the problem i have now is i told them about all my mods when i was quoted.
they have sent me a modification form which i have filled in and sent back a week ago,
i have been on line to check my account and the vehicle details says it's a 1297 cc when i have told them it's got a 1800 16v in it.
it also say's i past my test in 1993 when i told them it was 1984...
i have tried ringinging from work but i just end up on hold all the time and end up putting the phone down.
i have rang this evening and a girl on reception answered but apparently i was to late as they had gone home.
she said i would be put on the call back list but then i was told this is not guaranteed.

G123 CJN  any help would be greatly appreciated.

If I haven't received a call back after submitting an online quote, does that mean that HIC can't beat my current best offer?

Hi all,

I have a question. I have 7 years ncd, my insurance will renew after 21 days where I will recieve 8 years ncd. I have just bought a GTi and will recieve delivery next week. If i were to insure my gti with 8 years ncd and then show proof of noclaims after my current cars insurance expires, will my new insurer cancel my insurance, since I started the policy on date before I had actually recieved 8 years ncd?
