Title: Chuffs Go Kart of Dark Pumpness.
Post by: JC on 16 July 2011, 20:18

But will my bum look big in

Most know it, Ex DH's and from tomorrow Ex Horneys 3 pot TDi wonder

So after many dawgs, and overpriced cr4p on stealers forecourts, Mr Horn came to me with an offer i couldnt refuse,

So from tomorrow, the polo will be mine,

needs some fettling, but hey I can live with that, first up, wheels, now I  have a thing for

They're not coilovers, they're struts and they're plenty of drop for it.

This Polo has much WIN in it, with a dash of VIC check.

having come from a 1137cc Bike capable of 186 mph, YEs i do believe it

The passat b3 which was a tad low was all show and not much go,

This will do me just fine, for less than most people pay for their years insurance  :smug:

Yeah I always found them to be in a stupid location. German ergonomics fail.

Edit: At least they go up and down with a some speed though. The MX5 ones are glacial!

first things first, Tunes, the passat gave up its install a lot easier than the polo recieved it

Whilst sorting the tunes I refitted the NSF indicator that was making a bid for freedom  :lipsrsealed:

And then threw some snow foam at it, happy birthday car

then a quick once over with a mitt, just so see what lay beneath

Think it will need a good half day allocating to a good de tar ing, and maybe a coat of polish, eventually.

Then it was a quick call to book her , well me, a spot on a ramp tomorrow for an oil and filter change and a quick one over just for my own peace of mind before I start using it in anger on a daily basis.

Next stop, halfords for some bulbs and a mirror glass

Well the old girl came out of the garage, oil n filter changed satis, and got booked straight back in for friday,

Funny braking noise identified - no rear pads left OSR

Knocking from the front identifed - anti roll bar bushes perished / useless.

Brake fluid is a tad discoloured or  - so might aswell whilst its in.

Rear brake lines showing signs of corrosion taking hold

NSF CV boot getting resecured.

and the front shocks are seeping a bit, but they are staying as they are.  :lipsrsealed:

New mirror glass recieved in the post, and good guess work by me, it was the right one of the 3 possibilities

And the Dash cubby hole tray turned up so no big hole in the dash.

Just waiting on the door repair kit, and she should be ready for a week monday.

Well i just filled it up from warning light on, £55 which is nice, and a lot less than the Passat.

Then attempted to give it a good hoovering out, and the garage hoover broke

No just everything else

I know its early days shaun,

but its quite enjoyable to drive, keeping it in the VERY narrow powerband is interesting

and certainly holds its own thru the twisties and last minute.com into roundabouts

and one the roll bar and brakes are sorted it can only get better .

Going back to small cars is always fun for a while.. .Like you say, early days, i'm sure there's plenty you can do to it to keep you entertained for a bit, with your history though you'll be moving on by the time the summer is out!

I read it before somewhere but forget, what's the mileage?

I really enjoyed it - it's a good, fun, CHEAP steer actually.

Nick hung on to it some some time, as well.

This tells us three things:
It is hard to kill
It is cheap to run
It is not boring

Ah well that's good then, only experience I've had with a tdi polo was in a 2006 model, courtesy car.  Soon clocked I couldn't live with one, I'm too big, wasn't comfortable and found it rather boat like.  Not sure if this was a bad year for a polo. Interior quality I felt was also poor on later models.

handles like a dream but it has been DH'd

Knowing my journey to work is a mix of 30,40 and 50 zones, all single carriage way, it will serve its purpose well :afro:

A bit of a delayed update, but the old girl was fixed in time so a roadtrip to a bikers memorial weekend went ahead.

Friday she was back in the garage

Sump plug threads were beyond their best so a Helicoil insert went in and she is no longer staining the cobblestone driveway

Rear pads changed and the suspect sticky caliper issue sorted

Brake fluid changed

CV boot resecured

Still to do the anti roll bar bushes as the only supplied the links not the lower arm bush too

New number plates are here,

as is the door lock repair kit, so once the passat is collected tomorrow, the mission to do that is on  :lipsrsealed:

done over 120 miles and the fuel gauge hasnt even dropped below the FULL line yet

and the wheel search continues, might be dropping down to run some 14s

There's a nice Blue Calibra V6 on Pistonheads for less than £500.  In light of your new employers, this could be a good purchase, or even a quick turnaround sale for profit.

Nice dealer stamp and you can sell that on for over a grand.

so a good mix of driving returning a good mpg

You replaced the 3-pot TDI motor with a 1.6 GTI one?

Good skills in a day....

What made that nasty dent in the bonnet?

I can only presume the same incident that put the bend in the back of the car, which happened before I got it.

I think it was the filling in a sandwich at some point.

I didn't need to run Nick over with it to get him to swap out the Corrado, he submitted willingly, although he was under the influence of Frankland at the time.

well today I have mainly been adding to the NSF corner damage,

and made my own mark on most of the NS panels

thank fook I didnt find a tidy motor and spank £2k on a daily,  :smug:

cos i think hedge car interfaces will be a regular thing on my commute ( If I'm still doing it that is )

and 4500 rpm redlines are NOT useful when trying to stress relief yourself

but toyo tyres of oversizedness and a lowered motor added to lots of roundabouts and late braking opportunities are

Don't worry Chuff.  You're just imprinting the polo with your character.  Just like the mighty lions piss on bushes to mark their territory.

David Dickinson calls it "Patina".

The next victim owner will be most pleased with its provenance.

well took the old girl for a bimble to collect some new rims, bargain they are too  :smug:

had to finally fill up after 2 weeks of commuting, 497 miles on 38.6 litres, not bad considering I am lucky to get into 5th on my commute at the moment due to roadworks.

so, later I will be mainly fitting
