Car won't start after a 10 mile drive

Hi there, I own a 99 MK IV Golf 2.0 8v.  After I park up following a journey of approx 10 miles or more the car won’t start if it’s left for over 30 mins. It turns over ok but won’t fire.   However, if I then leave the car for about 30mins the engine starts as normal !  This means that when I visit anyone I have to go out to the car and turn it over a couple of times 30 mins before I want to leave !

I don’t seem to have this problem after a short journey or if I only stop the car for a few minutes, eg to fill up with petrol.

Does anybody know what might be causing this ?

mine did same and it was the battery.. have you got vag com?

Right, found out that vag Com is diagnostic software ! Would the RAC have this? I called them out once when I first had the problem, and they hooked up a laptop which had some kind of diagnostic software on, but they didn't find anything wrong.

I finally got round to replacing the fuel pump relay and its fixed the problem, so many thanks RichW  :smiley:
