the VR6 & R32 are technically not GTi's

Mk2 Gti 16v is still the best ;)

I never asked about GTI's tho. it just happened that most of the best ones are GTI's and the R32 and the VR6 are good enough to join them!

I would say that the MK3 GTI 8v is technically not a gti either - just a gl with a bodykit ;)....
