No sound from passenger door speakers
« on: 08 November 2015, 16:47 »
Hello

I have a MK5 GTI and there is no sound from any of the speakers in the left door (it' a 3-door model). The speakers work fine in the other three corners when I set the fade etc. and the rest of the stuff on the left door (windows and lock) all works fine.

I've had a quick look and it looks like the crossover has been opened up before and the wiring harness shows signs of repair. When I put everything back together, I got an airbag fault on the dash, I think because I had the ignition on while I was unplugging bits of the door (including the airbag sensor). Can I just disconnect the battery for half an hour to clear that error code?

Also, since I did this yesterday, there is a quiet and high pitched humming noise which sounds like it's coming from the left door area, near where the top of the seatbelt would be? Given that I am going to replace the crossover anyway (£10 part), I didn't put the old one back in - could that be what's causing the noise?

I would like to know a reputable garage/audio specialist that could diagnose the problem and then fix a new crossover or wiring harness if that was the problem. And also what I should expect to pay for diagnostics, parts and labour.

If anyone on these forums could do the job themselves, then I'd be happy to pay.

Thanks,

Olly
