Afternoon chaps, my TDI has had an intermittant misfire on idle for a short while, it happens mostly a minute or two into a cold start, or when left idling for a bit, its like its missing on one cyl for a few seconds at a time, its fine at any rpm above idle.

I don't have access to vagcom yet but from a quick google search... I'm thinking injector wiring loom? also just to note when car went into VW for service and for another reason both times there was no fault codes logged, so I'm guessing it will only show up on diagnostic check when its actually misfiring?

EDIT: just to add there are no dash lights etc showing a fault

Thanks for replies, yes I'd say it is a bit more smokey than normal can smell it too. I checked the connector from engine loom to injectior loom today, was secure and terminals fine, gave them a quick clean anyhow, it did seem better when started it and left it ticking over, see what its like tomorrow :undecided:

I have the same problem so would very interested in suggestions to fix it I have a very rough idle and blue smoke, all seems fine once it's done 1/2 mile (Smokes gone and idles sweet as a nut) it only seems to be when it's cold. But it stinks, if you sit with the car idling it chokes you half to death!

Have you tried changing the fuel filter? The simple things often get overlooked.

My car does it too, smokes more on a cold day. Once warm it stops smoking.

Mine gets changed twice a year

Well its definately been better since I checked and cleaned that connector, fingers crossed.

As regards fuel filter, it had full service at VW in November

Yes it's serviced every 10k so twice a year for me, the thing I find most strange is that the smoke is blue but it hardly uses any oil!

Might try cleaning that plug then where do I find it?
