Tyre softener?
« on: 23 December 2012, 21:52 »
I got some wets that are harder than what they should be  and instead of paying out for new tyres I would rather try tyre softener.

Have any of you tried a tyre softener before and does it make a difference?

We don't have tyre sniffers at my track luckily  :lipsrsealed:

Is this for the kart? Check Demon Tweeks, they have a range of tyre additives.

Careful though, they're banned for racing by the MSA, I already looked into it.

PS: To have the tyres as soft as possible before going on track put them all in the sun (if it's sunny obviously) for some time before fitting them and going out.

It's for my karting  :lipsrsealed: and slicks are fine it's the wets and obviously no sun.

I keep my tyres indoors in a warm cupboard. It's clear that my wets are hard as my inters are soft and my bro inlaws wets are sticky as hell.

I know it's not aloud but Tkm are changing wet tyres for 2013 but we can still use the old wet tyre until April. I just want to try use them up as they have a lot left in them.

Yeah see "grip" tyre softener on there site, just wanted to know if its worth it.

Spoke to demon tweeks and they advised me not to use it on a wet track.

But can give 0.5 sec on dry cold track. I don't think I would benefit from it on a hot track as we struggle with to much grip.
