hahah :D

Come on. Remap, Forge DV (not going to give a power increase should help be hold the boost), 3' downpipe, miltek sports cat and carbon speed CAI.

Komenda is running as near as makes no difference the same engine mods as me and ran 270bhp on the rollers. Giving R-tech the benifit of the doubt on not doing that many MK5s I think 264 is do able . . . . :undecided: . . . . just me lol ?

Dd you nail it anywhere? I've got a flatspot in between 3.5k and 4.5k which after more reading up i'm putting it down too a dodgy MAF, maybe similar prob to your's?

It drives fine on the road. Can't feel a flat spot but it is obviously killing the boost.
I checked all the hoses today, put my old (standard) diverter valve back on and cleaned out the air filter and air box which were shockingly dirty and it pulls like a train now. I also cleaned the throttle body, but I am hoping it was the new diverter playing up. I will upgrade it to a Forge to be on the safe side. Would of like to of seen over 200bhp on the rollers and considering its a 180bhp anyway it should of been easy!!
Could be MAF or N75 playing up but will let Nick have a play with it and get it sorted properly
Title: Re: RR day Power predictions.
Post by: sambo on 29 March 2009, 22:47
hmmmmm bit of a pattern emerging here. I'm wondering if 3.5-4.5 is where the engine peaks and just at this point the MAF isn't able to cope?

There have been various threads on ukmkivs.net where peopl have experienced similar faults and a new MAF has cured it.. Failing that it's n75 valve or boost leak but i would have thought you would notice it over more of the rev range if it were a boost leak personally especially seeing as we all seem to suffer the same issue, bit to co-incidental to all have a leak with the same result IMO
Title: Re: RR day Power predictions.
Post by: dubcruiser on 29 March 2009, 22:51
Yeah does all seem a bit similar doesn't it. Could do with a new MAF to try to make sure it cures it as they are bloody expensive!!!
Like you safe if there was a boost leak then surely it would peak and then drop it as in theory it would leak away from the start??!! To be honest I am happy with the way it performs as I am not really into ranting the nuts of it but on the flip side the map should give it around 210bhp so I am 25bhp down which is a fair bit....

I may try cleaning it first with that  isopropyl  stuff. Only a few quid so worth a shot even if it only works for a day or two. As you say, don;t want to be spending £80 on a needless part

EDIT: Mines really noticable when it happens. It's like someone has put the hand brake up 1 notch when giving some welly but lifts off again after 4.5 all the way up too the naughty box (redline)

Sam, Tim

Think I found my missing horses today. Took it to my mates house who knows a thing or two about turbo engines (Cosworths mainly!) and we tested all the vac and air pipes which were all fine. Actuator working as it should and holding 20psi so nothing there. Then we moved on to fixing my secondary air pump and in doing this checked the pipe from the turbo to the pancake pipe.... Well the thing was covered in oil which shows it was leaking. Took it all apart, cleaned it all up and refitted it properly and the car drives a lot smoother and I can tell its holding the boost (probably because its getting the FULL boost!). Also fixing the secondary air pump means it doesn't sound like a diesel on cold starts now!!

Am a bit happier now!!

Fantastic! So where is this  pipe you speak of?! Down the drivers side wheel arch?
Title: Re: RR day Power predictions.
Post by: dubcruiser on 31 March 2009, 17:38
Yeah thats the one. The metal pipe runs from the turbo across the back of the engine and then bends down which joins to a rubber pipe with a "5" printed on it which in turn connects to the pancake pipe. The join between the pancake pipe and "5" pipe was covered in crusty oil residue which obviously wasn't sealed properly....

My boost leak commet was a fob off!!   lol just kidding m8. Just kidding mate!    Bens had the same problem for the past few month, it was only on friday when we fitted his new de-cat we found the oil around the joint on the pipe.  This would explain Bens car being 10bhp down at JKMs rr day.

Next time your down this way pop into us and we will put your car on the dyno again for free to see the true result from your AUQ lump and the spec1 map

Glad your happy again m8!!

Just been out it in again now, and its getting better all the time as the TB beds in again after a really good clean up.

Will let you know when I am up that way. Probably won't be until June now as I am on holiday in May but I would be very interested to see what she is pushing out now! I think I will upgrade to a Forge 007P aswell though to be on the safe side.

I am well happy!!! And thanks for the support and for putting on a great day on saturday! Think my brother is interested in getting his 150PD sorted after seeing the results so will see if we can bring both cars up at the same time....

I was the 'younger lad' at a guess ;) SabreK's was the smokey one..I spoke to you as I was leaving, and spoke to you bout your front lights.

Yeah mine was smoking £20 worth of Castrol Edge!
I had checked the oil level in the morning and was down to half, so I filled up with 2 litres.  Didn't know the turbo sucked it up because the vacum hose had disintegrated.  Think that's probably why the turbo died during the first run.

Ran 176 ish with a boost leak (vac hose failure)
Ran 129 BHP 175.6 FT LBS once the turbo had died.

Planning to take the turbo and intercooler out for a clean and maybe and engine flush.  Does anyone know if it is a hard job or just a PITA?
Meanwhile I've ordered a KO3S and FMIC ...

Where'd you order the k03s from?

AET Turbos - not many Golf parts in the scrappies round here and MOT is due next week!
bobbarley I'd wait a bit and find a good KO3S at a decent price.  Repairs can cost from £200 - £500 at that point you might as well buy a remanufactured unit for £540 plus you would have to send your turbo back.
