1..4 Pick Up Pipe *urgent*
« on: 20 July 2014, 15:20 »
Hi all,

Really frustrated today and need some help quite urgent and was wondering if some of you lovely folks could help me out. I had the oil pressure light for about a year at higher speeds (about 75+ mph). I had a look and saw oil pick up pipe was the most common issue so picked one up from vw. Gave the car to the mechanic who said sump plug has been glued on by previous mechanic and needs new sump. Hes planning to order one and get it fitted when he changes the pickup pipe. I was looking over youtube to see if its hard and saw this video:

AT 16.55 to 17.00 mins i can see the pick up pipe, however this is COMPLETELY different from the one i got from ECP....which looks like this:

anyone have any idea if ive been stupid and just lost lots of money on trying to get a pipe replaced that shouldnt have been or the part number of the correct pipe, or is the one ive ordered correct and the one in the video look sstrange. I have a mk4 2000 vw golf 1.4 and need the part number asap please! I bought two pick up pipes one for the 1.4 and one for the gti  but never knew it wouldnt fit. part nos would help!

Thanks

if u gave dealers your reg before they ordered it then you should have the right one for your car .

dealers usually right when u get a part from them.i have seen variations in pick up pipes when i was looking into doin mine . went to the dealers and it was around £18 if i remember 4 mine - there turbo pick up was nearer £100-but u wont of bought that for a 1.4 .you would of needed a new sump anyway if plug has been glued in -due to mechanic stripping the threads because impossible to do an oil change if glued in . pick up pipes can be cleaned and reused but it aint worth the work because there not expensive .
