Hi, I've got a '99 plate 1.8T GTi and I've got a problem with the multi-function display (the red led indicators in the centre of the dash which show journey time / mpg / avg speed etc). When I start the car the display is clear and bright but within about 20 minutes of driving the display fades to the point where I can't read it anymore. Once the car has stopped and cooled down everything reverts to normal.

Any idea? Is this repairable? Can I replace the multi-function display or do I need a new dash cluster?

I live in south Manchester so any suggestion where I could go to source a spare?

cheers.

I'm almost certain that it is more costeffective just to replace the clocks pal because the bulbs/leds are going I think

mine do it as the heat inside the car increases... on a really hot day it'll be blank, and my parrot display does the same!!!

Its defo not normal, my 1.8t didnt do it no matter what the tempature is, my R32 does is a tiny bit, replacement clocks as in standard ones wont cost you more than around £20 but you need someone to code them in

It also fades at the top of the display in my TDI. Its a very common issue and is only resolved by changing the clocks. Im not fussed as I was going to fit Bora Sport clocks anyway.
