28th July, that's on the cusp of "do I pick it up now or ask the dealer to keep it until Sept 1st?".

That all sounds great in theory until that date actually comes! ;)  All for the sake of a number on the reg plate...go private, it's far less bothersome (if slightly more expensive!)

Honestly, you guys are getting too hung up on number plates. 13 or 63 will be totally irrelevant come selling time, won't make a difference.  Take the car asap!

We all know it's nothing to do with resale value ;)  It's plate envy!

Yeah I will be taking the car ASAP  Luckily here in N.Ireland no one knows if you have a 13 or a 63 plate due to the format of our number plates...

Actually, although slightly off topic (apologies), talking about topping up oil, my Scirocco is my first with the CR (common rail) engine, and I have to say in 2½ years of ownership, I have never once - ever needed to top up my oil. It never moves between services. My older Golf 5 with the PD engine would regularly go through 1-1½ litres in between the annual services.

TBH, I know more mates with TSI and TFSI engines (especially Polo GTI) that drink oil much more than any diesel
