1.8T GTI AIR FILTER HELP!!?? MAF?!?
« on: 07 May 2011, 09:56 »
Sorry if this has been asked before but im new here...

Iv just been out and bought myself a lovely mk4 GTI turbo.. there was an induction filter in place of the standard panel filter and it seemed ok.. but yesterday the revs started to judder on tick over and at one point it stalled?

i hadnt noticed before because even on the test drive i didnt stop for any length of time..

i did put 4 new spark plugs in it but the problems still there...

the car did come with the original air box and panel filter and because of this issue i automatically replaced the kit with the standard box.. thinking it would solve the problem..

it still judders slightly, dipping from 500rpm then bouncing up to about 1000rpm the settling at 800rpm for a moment then the process starts again.. but since fitting the original airbox it hasnt cut out..

is this the mass air flow sensor ??

will this jeperdise my choice of air filter?

i had plans of putting a cold air fed induction kit on it with the metal pipe work.. but now i dont want to spend out incase its gunna cut out all the time!

HELP!

thanks, gunna get myself some carb cleaner today and give it a go.. if the combination of a new MAF sensor and a throttle body clean work will i be able to throw a cold air fed induction kit on it? or will this mess the air flow up again?

would i be better gettin a pipercross panel filter? keeping the original airbox?

as long as its a oil free filter, or you de-oil it, it will be fine.

MAF's are about circa £90 on exchange from VW. Expensive, very expensive.

TB very easy, and free to do.

What engine code do you have as may have to reset TB with vagcom.
