Title: Wing mirror indicator
Post by: Neil C on 24 July 2020, 23:15
Can anybody tell me if the standard Mk6 wing mirror indicator is a sealed unit or can i replace the bulb in it for LED equivalent ?
I have bought a specific error wing mirror indicator mini LED bulb from Autobeam but i dont want to strip the mirror unit to find it cant be changed.

My option then would be a pair of dynamic sequential / sweeping LED units , but i think these need coded in etc.

Any help would be much appreciated guys.

Why bother changing to LED?
I'm just asking as it's already a series of LEDs....

Comes as a complete unit (the bottom half) with indicator part attached to it.

Why do you think a set with sweeping LEDs need coding? They'd be just plug and play for the wing mirror indicator.

(Not that I'd personally waste my money telling people I'd rather drive a new Audi but can't afford one.)

I wanted to upgrade the LEDs to brighter ones as technology has moved on quite a bit from 2012 when my Golf was launched. I've had a few occasions lately when turning and the car at the junction has started to move out as if they cant see me - hence the reason for wanting brighter LEDS with a wider spread.

And the reason i thought they needed coding is simple - the mirror units which ive seen advertised are listed for GTD and GTI models , and mine is a GT. I know if i upgrade my rear taillights to LED that these will need coding in , so i thought it would be the same for the mirrors. If i buy a set i'll let you know if this is true or not.

And as for your Audi comment , im not trying to make my Golf look like one because i cant afford one. A Mk7 Golf GTD and GTi has more modern lighting than my Mk6 , so does that mean all Mk7 owners cant afford an  Audi? Wise up..
