Title: Happy Christmas to me! - MY19 content arrived!
Post by: kmpowell on 22 December 2018, 14:40
To cut a very long story short, in order...

1. Ordered a car at the start of the summer with expected delivery of 3mths max
2. Delay after delay saw me cancel it when they finally said it wouldn't arrive until March 2019 at the earliest
3. Struggled to find anything close spec wise to what I wanted, due to needing DCC (no compromise must have) and wanting Dynaudio, and Leather or Art Velour at a bare minimum.
3. Found a Clubsport last month (not in my preferred colour I must add), but that fell through when the dealer reneged on the p/x value for mine.
4. Roll on to first thing this morning and I get a surprise call from my dealer, totally out of the blue, saying my originally ordered car had yesterday evening/night turned up on the back of a transporter, with 3 other GTI orders they weren't expecting until next year!
5. Asked if it was a MY19 or MY18 and he confirmed it was MY19
6. Went down to see it in the metal a few hours ago, and the dealer honoured their P/X value given, honoured the 15% discount I was given, and they gave me the new 3.6% APR on the finance.
7. I obviously signed for it there and then!

MY19 - 5dr 245 Performance
DSG,
Isaac Blue Steel
Leather
Brescias
Dynaudio
DCC
Pan Roof
Electric Memory front Drovers seat

As it's a MY19 it has the Rear Camera (I originally specced this anyway), Lane Assist and Keyless on it. Mirror caps are not black as others have wondered, they are Isaac Blue.

... and here she is (literally driven off the transporter and wrapping removed for me, nothing else done to it so the wheel caps are missing and there's some glue remanence on it):

To say I'm happy would be understatement!

The only two questions I have is:

- Do I take it as a 2018 registered car next week, or wait until the first of Jan so it's 2019 registered?
- They have offered me the alloy insurance for £300 (max 12 claims in 3 years, no excess) - what have others paid for theirs?

Happy Christmas!! I picked mine up on Thursday and they offered alloy cover, 3 years, 18 claims for £259, although unsure if/what excess as I didn't take.

Sack the alloy insurance and take the car now if you really want it now. Won't make any difference if its registered this week or first week in January it's still a my19 car.

Looks good. Don’t bother with the alloy wheel insurance. Lots of alloy wheel insurances only cover SMART repairs rather than a good quality proper refurbishment, and IMO SMART repairs can be hit and miss, especially on diamond cut alloys. Also, many alloy wheel policies don’t cover diamond cut wheels, so you’d need to check carefully what cover you’d be buying if you bought the dealer’s (or any alloy wheel insurance) product.

I’d rather put the £300 aside and use it to get the wheels refurbished properly if you’re unlucky enough to have the odd scrape or two.

As for when to take the car; only you can decide. It’ll be a 68 reg whether you take it this month or next.

Well that's great,  enjoy the car.

Take the wheel ins, I usually don't do all the extras they try and sell you but I did get the wheel ins. I think I paid £250 for 6 claims each year for 3yrs, no excess.
I've already claimed for 3 wheels which would of cost £315 . Well worth it with the Brescia's,  they're just a magnet for kerbs.

Have fun in your new car mate!

Amazing how in some of the pictures it looks so like Indium Grey! Especially the close up of front right corner and bonnet, would swear that's Indium.

Title: Re: Happy Christmas to me! - MY19 content arrived!
Post by: kmpowell on 24 December 2018, 17:18
Thanks all, all confirmed for a Jan the 6th pick-up next year. I spoke to a few friends in the trade and they said that a 2019 registered car will have a slightly higher trade value, so for the sake of a few weeks, I'll wait.

I've got the wheel insurance down to £250. Each 'repair' has a monetary limit of £150 to it, but each repair can be lathe/skim if required, not smart. Diamond cut is fully covered, so all in all the wheel insurance is a no brainer IMO, it'll pay for itself several times over given a good quality wheel refurb is £100+. More importantly it also means that if it's repaired on the approved Inchcape policy then any warranty claims (further down the line) for wheel quality can't be rejected.

Isaac blue was my first choice, with Indium a close second. It was hard finding a IBS car in the metal to view before ordering (the only one I saw had Art Velour, but I need leather for its wipe clean kid proof ability!), and although I got jitters thinking perhaps I should have ordered Indium, now it's arrived and I've seen it in the metal, I'm really glad I stuck with my first choice. I think IBS contrasts really well with the red detailing and the red detail in the leather.

A few people have asked what the build week was, well it's an odd one because the system doesn't currently show it, so he has contacted VW to see if he can get it. By his estimations (and other cars coming through) he thinks something 8-12 weeks ago would be realistic. He says that loads were batch-built then just sat there for ages waiting the for the WLTP sign off, so a lot of MY18 orders will be fulfilled as MY19.

So the countdown begins.

Decided to bin the wheel insurance, and instead put that money towards a full protection with my detailer inc self-healing ceramic coating and base layers which should last 2-3yrs.

It's going to be a looooong week!

Picked the car up this morning - very happy with it!

... albeit one teeny weeny issue... as it's a MY19, it has Keyless as standard, and my dealer assumed it also had the Lane Assist, Dynamic Light Assist and Traffic Sign recognition (which it lists on the build system that it does) as standard. However, when I was sat in the handover bay going through the controls it became abundantly clear that there's no Lane assist, Light assist or Traffic sign recognition, confirmed when I looked for the camera, only to see it missing! When I originally ordered the car I didn't spec this, so I'm not overly fussed, however because I have paid the MY19 price for the car my initial thoughts are:

1. They refund me the MY18/MY19 difference, which I think is circa £650 for this option
or
2. They retrofit the camera and activate the bits and bobs. I'm not sure how easy this is, but a quick google seems to indicate it's possible.

(https://i.postimg.cc/pXNNgYjR/IMG-1885-2.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/c6c533Tb)

So it looks like my car is a MY18/MY19 lovechild!

Anyway, as I said, I'm not going to let this minor issue ruin the day. The dealer is going to come back to me with what VW suggests happens next.

You’ll do well to get anything out of them, given that you didn’t expect the option when you signed the contract. Great looking car, congrats.

I hear what you’re saying but my original order was cancelled by me so that contract was null & void, as was, or so I thought, the car. The new contract I signed before Christmas (when I went to see it and took the pics in my OP) was for a confirmed MY19 car for which the options should be on it.

When I turned up this morning they had put the other GTI’s in their showroom and I saw them labelled up as MY19 on the plinths, so I’ve asked the question if they have the camera/options also missing...

Fingers crossed the dealer/VW plays ball, because I had it in writing that it’s a MY19 car.

Thanks for the congrats, I’m really chuffed with the colour combo and how the red contrasts through the car.

Car looks great. Lovely colour. I would expect some kind of compensation of those options were fitted as they’ve become standard. If it’s standard you expect the car to have it in the right model year. End of.

What do you think of the pan roof?
Title: Re: Happy Christmas to me! - MY19 content arrived!
Post by: kmpowell on 06 January 2019, 19:23
Ah, ok. In that case they should do something. Will be interesting.
I received an email late this afternoon from my dealer saying they are now looking into the "best possible solution" for me. Which sounds promising, fingers crossed!

To be honest the dealership were spot-on with everything, very open and honest, a total pleasure to deal with on all aspects, so I don't doubt they will do something to make-up for this. Hopefully that's not famous last words!

What do you think of the pan roof?
Looks great from the outside (when open or closed), it's just a shame the actual opening (hole in the roof) on the inside is pretty much the same size of a normal sunroof. Coming from a Range Rover Sport which literally had a full panoramic glass roof, I think Volkswagen's use of the word "panoramic" is a bit misleading, it does however give the cabin some extra light so I'm sure it'll get lots of use in the summer, as it did this morning when driving home on the sunny crisp day.

As for some of the other options I went for, my first limited impressions...

Dynaudio - I've said it before on here, but I think this is an absolute no brainer for anybody who likes music and/or spends significant periods of time in the car. The difference between this and the standard system is complete night and day. I like the fact you can adjust the bass separately from the subwoofer, giving you four elements on the equaliser (Treble, Mid, Bass, Sub). I spent an hour this afternoon tweaking and setting it up to my taste and I'm very happy, it's punchy with great mids and crystal clear vocals. Well worth the money. Could it be more powerful than 400watts? Yes, but it's still really good system.

DCC - Brilliant, exactly what I had hoped for, but probably not for the reason most would spec it. Whilst I suspect most would spec DCC for it's sporty ability, I specced it mainly for the "comfort" setting I can switch the dampers into. Amongst the a/b-road basting, I mainly do two types of trips, short(ish) trips around London's pot-hole and speed bump laden roads, plus I also do 2x 400 mile round trip motorway journeys each month. Even switching between "normal" and "comfort" is drastically noticeable. Very happy with that choice.

Brescias - I was a bit worried I should have stuck with the Parkers, but the looks overruled my head and thankfully the DCC has eliminated any worry I had in that dept. I think they look fantastic, even if they are not bi-directional (drives my OCD mad!). They've come shod in P-Zero's, time will tell how they wear.

Leather - A big worry is this one is for me, I know VW leather can look very bad in a short space of time so I ummmed & aaaahed long & hard about getting it. But with two young kids (5 &2), the wipable need is high, plus you can only have the electric seats with leather, so I'm sending it off to my detailer for maximum protection to try and preserve the longevity. As it stands today I think it looks epic, and gives the cabin a real touch of class. The red piping and stripe detailing compliments the external red and internal dash red well.

Electric memory seats - specced purely for the 4 way electric lumbar support becasue I just couldn't get comfortable in a seat with manual lumbar. I test drove a non DCC car on brescias and after 25mins my back ached badly, specifically in the area where the manual lumbar support was, so I put it down to my height. This meant the Leccy seats were a must for me. So far so good, but the test will be the first long motorway journey.

More thoughts, for those of you interested (and still awake!) as I get to know the car.

Had some similar thoughts when I ordered
The brescias do look great - particularly as they show the red calipers better- i was worried it would wreck ride, and couldn’t afford dcc.
My kids bit older, and my no eating/drinking/ breathing policy should keep seats in good condition.
Besides, i’d have paid extra for tartan.
Haven’t been this excited about a car since a 205 gti i had 22 years ago.
Enjoy

Dynamic Light Assist is not standard on MY19. Keyless, rear camera and Lane Assist are.

The confusion usually comes because you need Lane Assist to have Light Assist - it uses the same camera (as does traffic sign recognition).

If you haven't got Lane Assist options in the menus, then you haven't got any of the other things that depend on it.

Light Assist also has different headlight units, which have electronic masking...

Possible to retrofit? Yes anything is possible, likely? I'd say not. (It definitely does need authorisation coding via VW HQ  (component protect)- you can't just bolt it on and have it work). You'll get an offer of some compensation or a re-order. Although, possibly not if you hadn't paid for any of those things specifically (ie not expecting to get them as a new bundled freebie).

The rear camera, that can be fitted even by DIY, again I've never heard of a dealer doing it.

In pretty much every case like this, you hear people getting either a freebie/cheque or a re-order.

Just setting your expectations here...

Dynamic Light Assist is not standard on MY19.
Yes it is.

See the last option on this page from the MY19 brochure, which shows it's standard on the performance (see the 9 note). It's all controlled as you say via the camera which is fitted for this (the camera which is missing on my car)...

(https://i.postimg.cc/HWMfqP9L/Screenshot-2019-01-07-at-09-31-55.png) (https://postimg.cc/V5YGMgTy)

Just to clear up any ambiguity, I have the rear camera and keyless, it's just the camera (and subsequent three options in the pack) that are missing. My car is defo a MY19 as it shows all the things on the car's 'standard' column in the build list, plus it is also 140 g/km which is the new MY19 rated engine rather than the previous 144 g/km.

Interesting, I thought it was just the three extra things they'd added (keyless, lane assist/sign recognition and rear camera)

From elsewhere on here:

Quote
You can tell if your car has dynamic light assist by the fact that when low beams are on, all 4 headlights are on (both the inners and the outers on both sides). Without DLA, only the outside headlamp units on each side are functional on low beam.

So it might be more than just the camera missing... that will indicate if you have the light units that are part of the system.

Effectively DLA keeps main beam on all of the time, then masks out oncoming traffic (with varying degrees of success).

I used to have the old automatic main beam system (on a Mk7). It was less high tech but also not exactly great, blinding people all over the place probably, particularly lorries on dual carriageways or motorways - the central reservations masks their lights, which means my car can't "see" the lights of the oncoming traffic but the driver can see mine...

The other slight issue is that you need to turn it on manually each time you start driving - its only automatic after you switch it on... in the end I rarely switched it on.

For all of these reasons and more, I didn't pay £650 for it on my Mk7.5....

As a freebie, like all of the other freebies on MY19... I'm meh about them all :-)

Update from the dealer, and it's a good result...

They checked the 3 other MY19 GTI performances they received, and all of them have Keyless and the Rear Camera, as expected, but the camera (for Lane assist, light assist and traffic sign recognition) is also missing like it is on mine. They queried with VW to double check all the cars are MY19, VW confirmed the MY19 spec/engine (also confirmed today when I received my V5 with the 140g emissions), so it's a mess-up at VW. VWUK are blaming the build date versus when the new spec was actually confirmed, because apparently there were several configurations that might have become standard for MY19, so it is likely that only Keyless & the RVC were expected to be standard when mine (and the others) was built. One thing's for certain, this could be an issue for many MY19 GTIPP & R cars out there that were built in Oct Nov or early Dec, because it was only from the second week of December that the final specs were confirmed.

Anyway, with all that in mind they are going to refund me £650 (the cost of the option if it wasn't standard), which I am more than happy with.

Great result, well done.So it seems only December built cars have the full MY19 spec.

My dealer advises the updated MY19 spec comes with the approx £550 increase in list price. No?

For the 5DR DSG Performance:
MY18 - £31,755 OTR
MY19 - £32,480 OTR - but MY19 comes as standard with Keyless (normally £375), Lane Assist with Dynamic, Light Assist including, Traffic Sign Recognition (normally £650), and Rear-view camera (normally £340).

So it seems only December built cars have the full MY19 spec.
Given what my dealer has discovered, it's not quite as straight forward as that. Any car that was built before the second week of December might have the item missing.

If you ordered from the 19th of December then you will 100% get all the options (although still worth double checkin!), however if you ordered a MY19 before then and/or your car was built in Oct/Nov or Dec 2019 then there's a chance you may have the option missing.

I'm happy though because the money I'm getting bac for the Lane Assist will help pay for the full detail & ceramic coating it's goes in for on Monday.

My car was built in October and non of the new standard items on MY19 are on mine.

Not that it's an issue as i'd rather not have keyless entry for obvious reasons and since its a hatchback its a doddle to park without requiring a rearview camera compared to the A4 i had previous

Are you sure yours is a MY19?

The easy way to tell 100% is by the VED CO2 emissions number. For a DSG Performance MY18 was 144g/km, MY19 is 140g/km, which you can find on your V5 or on the Car Tax check website.

If it was built in October then it's my18 not 19.

Just had my car delivered (Golf GTI) today!

No reversing camera, keyless or lane assist

It was built in the last week of October and VW have confirmed it is a MY19 car.

VW stated that even though my car is MY19 the MY19 spec was further updated and that cars built from week 47 will have the updated items

As in the initial MY19 spec included the winter pack, convenience pack etc

This was further updated for vehicles built from week 47 onwards to include reversing camera, keyless and lane assist

Regardless I’m very happy with the car! Especially the Dynaudio and how quick the infotainment system especially compared to my previous car (2014 Leon FR)

Also on a side note really impressed with Car-Net like the fact it provides live traffic info on the built in sat Nav!

Only negative this far is that I’m struggling to fit in my phone in the front cubby space! Lol

When you have a spare 5 mins can you take a screenshot of your Dynaudio settings and post them on here? Good job in getting a refund! I would have imagined you could have pushed for a round £1000 though because the foglight gate victims got £500 even thought the cost of fog-lights was £275.

Sorry to hear that. I made the very simple point to my dealer, which they agreed with and said they would take it up with VW. There is no literature out there that says a MY19 comes in a variety of spec depending on build date. The brochures (and all the stuff VW had on their website) was very clear, you either got a MY18 car or a MY19 car, so IMO if you got a MY19 car then you should have got what was advertised in the brochures. If you go back to your dealer you should be able too get some money back.

Here you go:
(https://i.postimg.cc/yx8z8XXx/IMG-1941.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/r03Hh4H2)

This is the set-up I have so-far found works for my music tase (vocal House/Dance) etc which I always stream via CarPlay using Soundcloud/MixCloud/Spotify/AmazonMusic/AppleMusic etc

I have found the Dynaudio really is sensitive to the bitrate of the music you are playing. If I'm using Spotify (which is generally a much higher bitrate) then the mids really pop. I've tried tweaking the mids, but I'm yet to find a perfect setting for Amazon Music because they use all sorts of music bitrate quality, I find with their older music it's a bit too high on the treble.
