The 18 degree ambient temperature will be helping massively. Try your experiments during the winter months and see what happens, you'll get nowhere near what you're getting now from a cold start.

This is my first diesel so it's quite interesting learning about the characteristics of a diesel vs petrol. Got it in December so by the time I got to grips with it summer arrived. So going through a full winter will surely be interesting.

I'm just wondering for those who are creeping up to 100k what would you do in terms of "deeper" engine work that may affect it's mpg (if it does at all)?

I remember on my MK5 I cleaned out throttle body and that itself made the car feel like new. What about diesels?

Just got 130 miles from £20 on our GTi all round town, its mapped to 300BHP too :whistle:
