Which amp 4 my components & Sub?
« on: 08 June 2007, 12:03 »
I have a VR6 to which I am going 2 place In Phase XT6C 240W component speakers & a 10" Kenwood sub.

I am still 2 buy the amp and was wondering what u guys suggest?

Looking at spending around the £200 mark.

Cheers

So you want a 4 channel amp and bridge the sub?

I've got a Sony and that works well.

You could look at a Kenwood amp to match the sub.

Best if you look at websites like caraudiodirect or Bass Junkies etc. see what you can get in your price range.

I'd recommend a JBL GTO75.4 - http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/jbl-gto754-p-4140.html

Will power the comps nicely with a fair bit of headroom and has enough power to do the majority of smaller subs justice.

yeah JBL are good kit, very good, maybe even too good ( careful you dont blow anything!) they have a habit of underrating their kit, which makes a change from most suppliers overrating stuff,  this is fine if your spks are JBL as they too will also be underrated.

the problem is this,  say the JBL amp is rated 100w rms and some JBL speakers rated 100 w rms will go together well and be very loud and quality but you get the same JBL 100w rms amp on some other 100w rms rated spks and it will kill them.

kenwood amps and stuff in general ( cept their cheeper HU's) are ment to be good too though.

In phase, ive seen their stuff before and im nearly 100% sure they are a side company of vibe and generally rebrand last years vibe stock with their name, which is fine because it pretty much gives you an inside look at some discounted vibe stuff!
vibe cannot make speakers to save their lives! subs and amps yeah, but speakers, no! every set of vibe speakers ive had have blown tweeters very quickly, they are loud which is why I (foolishly!) keep going back.
I could be wrong but their stuff looks pretty much identicle and I know it wouldnt be the first time audio manufacturers have done this.

It's better to have a more powerful amp than the speakers you're driving with it, just be careful with the gains :)
