Title: How to: Make rose-jointed adjustable drop links
Post by: dom on 29 April 2014, 20:58
Wazzzer came up with a solution for a set of adjustable drop links which include a ball joint and a rose joint to allow them to sit at a better angle than standard links, especially if running a TT/S3/LCR arb that goes under the driveshaft.

This is what you will be buying:

And this is what you will be making:

For one pair of drop links you need:

2 of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320997544140?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

2 of these in LH thread to match the above: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191085094424?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

2 of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/380444144576?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

and one pack of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280505700707?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Total is £44ish

The rubber boot goes over the rose joint, which then screws to the ball joint. The misalignment spacers go outside the rubber boot, with the smallest face against the rose joint to allow for maximum movement.

When they are fitted they look like this (S3 arb pictured):

The only slightly fiddly bit is getting the rubber boot over the rose joint, I used this guide to help:

The misalignment spacers..... I'm confused as it says smallest face against the rose? Forgive me if I'm being a tit but they're the same size both sides?

The face pointing upwards in the first picture is smaller.

They're conical shaped, as in the pic the surface not on the table goes against the rose bush. It gives them more range of movement

Some of these parts are no longer on eBay, I fitted the above parts to the letter and after 6 months the joints had play in , looking to buy more I realised the ball joints are out of stock and have been for some time so looked for an alternative ,
Just ordered from mc Gill Motorsport their best joints made from Kevlar for similar money
