New Clutch
« on: 05 November 2010, 17:13 »
Have just splashed out 250 quid for a mk3 on ebay, which looks pretty good but apparently needs a new clutch. As I'm not in desperate need for the car, thought I'd stick it in the garage and change it myself. How easy is this? Any advice hints or tips greatly appreciated - at least before I end up with a pile of parts on the floor and I regret a moment of lunacy

Not very hard depending on how "spanner handed" you are, also the right tools and a second pair of hands never go a miss.

also recommend changing your crank seal while your at it, just behind the clutch.

and if your in no rush then get the flywheel lightened while its out?

what can be tricky is lining you gear changer cables up

Says in the Haynes manual that I have to take off the front end - lights, bumper grill, radiator etc as a starting point. No problem with doing this - if its gonna help, but if I don't have to then taking it all off emptying coolant system seems a bit unnecessary.

Adivice anyone?

Thanks - I assume the change for a Mk3 will be similar to a mk2?
