See the square lump your fuel lines go in to, that's your HP diesel pump. Old clattering rotary type job. Noisey but bleeding efficient and very robust.

can it be changed to a more quiter 1 like a later model diesel?

Not unless you want to rip out the entire injection system, loom that controls it, re program the ecu for injection timings etc.

Cheaper to just get a newer car.

flippin hell thats not in my plans then,would if i had the money will save now for a couple of years then get newer 1.
