Possibly one for Wazzzer or someone with a stage 2 to answer.

Running my stage 2 still and in the main all going good, getting a few slight hesitations here and there so I'm thinking it'll be the flow somewhere...

EVERY tuner lists that at a stage 2 you NEED a CAI of some kind, I'm running the modified box with the R32 snorkel and the pipercross panel filter, and I don't really want to go and spend £100 or more on a decent CAI for a few BHP but if it helps with the hesitations it would be well worth it. Also from the MAF readings done on the road, I'm around the 250BHP mark

What you think guys on stage 2

I was running the R32 box on mine with stage 2 and didn't have any problems with hesitation.

If you want a CAI just keep your eyes on ebay as they pop up quite often, I think I paid £20 for my carbon one. Personally I wouldn't use a cheap aluminium CAI as the alu will suffer from heatsoak and be counter productive.

Just make sure you get yourself a decent filter on the end of it though, mines actually a Greddy mushroom; it's about the only jap thing I'll let near it!

I'm running Stage 2 and have a Jetex cone filter on the MAF. I used to have a cheapo "eBay special" CAI and the alu did used to get very hot after a long/hard run plus the filter quality was really poor.

You're right in that pretty much all tuners say at Stage 2 you need a CAI fitted, but I've never had any issues and tbh I'm not going to notice heat soak. Car made 230bhp on the nose when I had the Stage 2 Revo map done and it's felt spot on ever since with no change to setup. Yes I'm aware of running cone filters open in the engine bay and heat soak, and I guess if i was to go down a custom mapping route then a CAI would give me a bit more but day to day for a car I drive on sunny weekends for fun am I really going to notice, personally I don't think so.

I do have a Carbonio still from ages ago, but my R32 front bumper had the two outer honeycomb pieces removed and flushed with the rest (basically I have the R32 bumper with just the middle mouth piece for the FMIC) I did this as it hides the bigger pipes completely, but doesn't allow any air flow for the Carbonio.

I found the Carbonio sounded fine but it wasn't getting the airflow needed.

I'm not running the R32 airbox just the snorkel into my modified box (fins removed and smoothed) and the Pipercross filter.

Id get access to VCDS & do some logging, take note of when the hesitation occurs & check for differences in your logs (Fuel, air, boost etc...)

Still got my old R32 front bumper on?

I don't think lack of airflow would be causing noticeable hesitation. 230bhp was the limit for standard airbox from tuner talk years back.

Have you had the car on a dyno recently? MAFs do over read if on the way out and cause other issues.

Hi Scott, how are you buddy?

Yes I still have it, looks awesome to be honest PM me your number and i'll get a pic across to you

No dyno, just live readings off the MAF with VCDS

It is hard to explain but there is definite hesitation when it has anything BUT the panel filter and DSG stuff on. Also bear in mind we aren't talking at 30 mph here
